Sorry, I didn't realise it had been done before, but at least it gives chance to those who missed it. Over the next few years they hope to improve the quality by re-photographing it, and offereing a higher resolution. Its one of the finest web uses I have ever seen. It makes the world seem so small ! :)

The instructions were simply, therefore why do you state that it does not make sense, when it obviously works on some machines.
For example ASUS A6000 serious.......

Because that isn't how pc's and web applications work. It doesn't matter whether you are in the Algarve or not.

My laptop is an ASUS A6000 series and Guest whilst it may not make sense to you, I can assure you the instructions supplied worked for me, otherwise what was the point in me trying to help Lesley-Jean :?: :)

Then you have something setup wrong. Nothing to do with Google Earth just with your pc.

Guest:- Whilst it is true to say that I personally am far from a "computer expert" others in my houshold have more than a good grasp.

My intention was solely out of kindness to try and help Lesley Jean where possible. Given your somewhat terse replies, I can see why some members wish for Guests to sign in when they wish to post on the forum.

Given your statement that my "brand new" computer is set up incorrectly, then old Bean if that were so then I would hardly be now looking at Google Earth and poor Lesley Jean is not :?

Lesley your welcome round to our residence anytime with your computer and to have a look at mine and Google earth.

Bruxy is correct it does not work on the Applemac.

My PC runs still on Windows98 and: it doesn't work with Google Earth!
My sons PC runs with Windows XP and it works!
(So I have to buy myself a new PC or confiscate my sons one  )

Hope this helps, this is what you need your computer to have as minimum specification.

System requirements for Google Earth

The Google Earth client requires certain system configurations in order to run smoothly.

Minimum configuration:

Operating system: Windows 2000, Windows XP
CPU speed: Intel® Pentium® PIII 500 MHz
System memory (RAM): 128MB
200MB hard-disk space
3D graphics card: 3D-capable video card with 16MB VRAM
1024x768, 32-bit true color screen
Network speed: 128 kbps ("Broadband/Cable Internet")

Recommended configuration:

Operating system: Windows XP
CPU speed: Intel® Pentium® P4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+
System memory (RAM): 512MB
2GB hard-disk space
3D graphics card: 3D-capable video card with 32MB VRAM or greater
1280x1024, 32-bit true color screen
Network speed: 768 kbps

Suit yourself. I didn't say it wasn't working, I said you shouldn't have to go through an odd procedure to get it to. If you do, you have some computer problem or other.

According to google it only works with some 3d cards, it is really quite picky.

 nightrider, I am so sorry that you have had to put up with terse remarks from guest when all you were doing is trying to help me, thanks anyway...As far as I can see my laptop has all the things neccessary to make it work, it has windows xp, graphics, tons of memory, 1.1mbps broadband.....but I still can't get it to work. I do think it must be my security settings not allowing it. I will have to try and find someone to look at it and tell me what is wrong.
Thanks for the offer of coming to yours, might take you up on that!!!

The last guy is having AV problems. If you are sure your video card is good enough, you might like to look at this.

What laptop do you have? I can check whether the video card should be ok if you like?
