Income tax in Portugal
Please can anyone tell me what is the different rates of tax in Portugal on earnings

That , I am sure, is the position for 2004. I have no earned income in Portugal so I am not up to date with the 2005 position.
If employed don't forget Social Security taxes. The latest data I have on this relates to 2002 but I assume the system has not changed significantly
(please correct me if I am wrong). The amounts payable by both employee and employer depend on the employee's activity. In 2002 a 'normal employee' (which would cover most) paid 11% and the employer 23.75%. Costs for some others are lower, eg clergyman 4% and 8%, fisherman 10% and 0% respectively. Even profesional soccer players pay less than the average worker.
I wonder if they will ever get to simplify the system? After a visit to Portimao tax office three years ago I doubt it.
