L'Orange - Shocking

Post by NickBeswick »

Hi Everyone

I'm currently in CVO for a week with my girlfriend. We thought we'd try L'Orange. We have passed it a few times over the last few years and it always seems busy. I read quite a few god reviews on here so though we'd give it a try.

I went in and booked a table for 9pm that night.

We arrived at 8.55 and were seating at a nice table inside as requested. We were offered drinks which arrived and after about 10 mins so did the menu's, although I had to ask for the wine list. We ordered promptly and our starters arrived about 9:20. Very nice !! We then expected our main course within 20-30 mins, 40 max giving for he pace of life out here. At 10:20 we got an apology but were told the chef was very busy. At 10:30 our main course arrived. By this time I was past eating !

On our experience alone I would not go back there and think there are much nicer restaurants in CVO. Sorry to put a bad review on here but I think people should be honest.

Cheers

HI Nick,

Sorry you had a bad experience at L'Orange. I have to say however, that that must've been an isolated experience, we have been to L'Orange many times, as have a lot of forum members, with no such problems.
Don't let it put you off, give it another chance.

Agree with tricky. We have never had a bad experience there, and service has always been excellent. We are over on Saturday for 3 weeks, and will certainly make a return visit.

Had exactly the same experience as the people who felt they did not want their meal by 10.30p.m. Had a long wait and shall not be going back in a hurry!! Ella and Ellies in the village is far superior.

Well we went and to be honest it wasn't the best meal I'd ever had. They also gave us only 1 lot of potatoes to share, whilst other diners had 2 and 1 definitely wasn't enough and 1 bowl of salad whereas others also had two. Probably won't be going back in a hurry.

We have been once. Had the longest meal in my life! Starters sort of came up more or less quickly but the main course took for ever. My poor sister who has to eat early or she finds sleeping difficult simply couldn't eat it as it was so late. Strange business as it wasn't that busy really.

By contrast went last night to Casa da Bife which was really very busy indeed and the meals were coming up in good time.

Having been to L'Orange on many occasions over the past 3 years, I can say that we have never had a poor meal or poor service.

On our last visit the chef, who I believe is also the owner came and spoke to us. Obviously he is a person who not only enjoys providing his customers with quality food, but that the quality of the visit should match as well.

Fresh quality food takes time, if they are busy it will take longer, another glass of wine please, some pleasant chat and the time just disappears

We tried L-Orange once and never again. Slow service, average food and too expensive for what it is.
Seems like one of those restaurants that used to be good, but now trades on its reputation without actually deserving it anymore.
Elle and Ella knocks it into a cocked hat!

Been several times over past couple of years. No complaints from me (us)..enjoyed all our meals there.
Its true, you do have to wait a while for freshly cooked meals, but worth it in my opinion..
but then I like a long leisurely dinner :)
The difficulty I have, is I often holiday alone and not every 'eaterie' likes or will find a table for one. A friend of mine on here had the same problem with Ele Ela.
