Restaurant Prices
Good for you Ivor-Thats telling 'em. They wont listen though. They already know their own countryfolk from Northern Portugal come to The Algarve, stock up at Lidls and sit indoors everynight, cos they think its a rip off too. The only thing is that these so called catering businessmen and women will affect all of us when CVO goes into liquidation and no one comes here and our properties are not worth a brass buck.
I dont like Tagus either so I just have to dring G & T's at 4 euros a throw

Just come back frrom 2 weeks & the prices were a rip off, dont think I will be going back, the potugise need to brush up on people skills a smile might be nice now & again, especially O Patio in the square who were so over priced it was ridiculous & were so grumpy it spoiled the meal.
told my children to move as they were busy & all they were trying to do was see the lobsteres in the tank, which was about all the entertainment that they could find.
CVO restaurant owners should o over to Icmeler in turkey & see customer service as it should be done, nothing to much trouble & kids entertained all the time. my 9 year old kept saying its not as god as turkey is it dad ?
oh yes & do something about all of the graffitti it makes the place look more run down than it actually is.

Loretta if she was alone then maybe she would find it difficult to spend that in a night, but Michael and I go to Turkey regularly and have notice huge increases in prices, mainly drinks as the tax has been increased hugely!
I look at it this way. If I have a great meal and good service then I really don't mind how much I pay, its when the meal is mediocre or substandard and the service non existent that I would have real issue with paying a lot.

Service is really becoming a key issue and although the demands of the average tourist have increased substancially over the years, I do not disagree with the comments about mediocre service - its becoming a real burden on our already strained industry.
What I don't get, is how a restaurant owner does not see these things and does not take note of the negative effect it is having on his/her buisness - if I am running a restaurant, I would make damn sure that my staff leave their attitude at the door when they start their shift. For the time they are serving my customers they are obliged to be polite, friendly and smile at all times - no matter how much sh*t they are getting or how bad their day went up to there. This should be the minimum requirement - anybody working in a restaurant or bar who is not able to do this is in the wrong line of buisness. Plus it works both ways, I for one would not have a go at a waiter for screwing up an order if the service was good up to that point.
As Sharen said - good food aside, if the service is good, a higher price is justified - Smarten up people, cos I still don't know of anyone who has a money tree growing in their back yard

Prices what prices?
Having just returned from yet another holiday and after reading some of the mails on this subject I would like to say we found not all restaurants in Carvoeiro to be on the make!
My wife and I spent 2 or 3 evenings at the 'Jota Lita' just up restaurant hill opposite the Carvoeiro Bar and found both staff & food to be very good and very reasonably priced

Whilst I agree there are some establishments which are more costly than others it pays to shop around although cheap does not necessarily mean good!
There is however in our opinion evidence of dual pricing being implimented in a lot of the coffee/casual bars which is to be expected to some degree after all - a holiday maker is a holiday maker!
and locals will always enjoy a cheaper tarrif.
We have been visting Carvoeiro for over 5 years now and have never been dissappointed and are looking forward to returning asap.

Eating Out
Looks like Gary and I will be spending some of our time eating in on this visit as we also have extended family ie; sons, and elderly parents joining us and that can get pretty expensive. Agree in general, the restaurant owners need to shape up. To who do you make your feelings known is it the local Tourist centre? You'd think the local tourist info centre would want to do some market research in certain areas to keep standards high, restaurants being one of them.
Even If you do say something to the restaurant owners (as we have done in the past) they seem to shrug it off and slag you off as you leave.

Unfortunately poor service is a thing found all to often............perhaps it was always poor in some areas but we were afraid to say or do anything about it. However as the English are now getting the reputation for being a nation of moaners
poor service it is becoming more commonly known and less likely to be tolerated.
I have a great deal of time for restaurant staff, they work long hours often for little money, but they do seem to forget that ultimately it is the customer who pays their wages (and tips) and if the service is exceptional they will get repeat business and more tips.

thanks Sam never thought of asking, you tend to not go back somewhere if you have a real bad one, this in all fairness has only ever happened once in CVO thank goodness. Having our own place in CVO and spending more time there we are getting to notice other restaurants in and around the area, instead of the ones on the main drag. We are by no means put off by going out and eat out generally every other evening or at least during the daytime and are discovering new places all the time which are generally quite good and reasonable. So it's by no means all doom and gloom, far from it, I still adore the place some warts and all.....

Restaurants in CVO do seem to be a bit more expensive then they need to be, not all but most. The answer for us, over these past several years, is to eat elsewhere. Many good ones in the area, not too far away. Price range for a meal with wine and coffee: 6euros(rare) to about 12euros, for an ordinary meal. Can be more, of course, but within that range, much is available.
