in rome be a roman, as they say!

i've never been stoped or questioned by police for not wearing a top in portugal, but if you're in a public place like a bar, shop, shopping center etc... the laws are different!

would you imagine women not wearing tops in the streets? the death rates on road accidents are bad as it is at the moment don't you think?

Just a thought :?

Most guys that walk about the streets without a shirt on have a lot bigger breasts than me that's for sure and could do with at least a C or D cup

Rome...now don't start me off on Catholics

was it Karl Marx that said religion is the opium for the masses? It seems to me there's more lows than highs with religion :!:

In my opinion religion should be an individual thing and shouldn't impose itself on society and how it is governed etc. Atheists don't go round telling people you have to wear this or that or cover your shoulders up etc.

Someone has told me that there is a law here that says you cannot walk about the streets without a shirt on or without shoes on your feet. I know a guy that was stopped by a GNR officer in Silves and told to put on a top whilst he was cycling about the town.

Personally I think it is a bit unfair that guys can walk about the streets without a top on but if a woman did it she would probably be arrested!

Thanks for confirming that. Personally I couldn't care if people drove around or rode their bikes naked but then I have always been a very liberal kind of person.

However, if that is the law, it is the law I suppose. I am surprised the GNR aren't out there arresting loads of shirtless tourists and making loads of cash.

Did you also know that it is also now an offence to drive whilst wearing flip flops or backless shoes? Approx. 150 Euros fine

that's an old law bruxinha, but only recently the pigs started to enforce it, it's another way of getting revenue, if they don't pick on anything else of course  [/quote]

Are you sure it is an old law ROTCIV? I am only ask because my Belgian mate paid the fine a couple of months ago and then she told me that she discovered it wasn't actually law yet. She went to the GNR and complained and they gave her a refund...that must be a first...a refund from the GNR :o Mind you she is a VERY forceful young woman...a bit like myself :D

I thought it was against the law to even walk about the streets without a shirt on but they would be mad to try to enforce it in Carvoeiro or any seaside tourist resort...but you never know do you?

The problem is there are always changes to the law and the average citizen is the last to find out until they are caught...bit like the reflective jackets. As soon as I bought one for my car, everybody started to tell me you now need 2 and maybe eventually one for every person in the car :?

i'm really amazed that GNR refunded your friend, what is going on?
have they learned some manners? next thing i'll see a pig flying.......

I will double double check and report back. She is, as I said, a VERY forceful young lady, so maybe they just wanted to get rid of her :P

I agree, I can't believe it had anything to do with manners

Anyway, I have thrown a pair of trainers in the car now, just in case. Can do without giving anyone 150 Euros!

By the way, my friend was also responsible for Modelo in Silves having to take down some signs saying, if there is more than one person in front of you we will open another checkout! As it rarely, if ever, happened she complained and next day they were on stepladders removing them :) Nice girl though. She works for Zoomarine...so beware if you visit in the near future...she's fierce
