Didn't mean to be rude PM - just a few of my friends eating the spuds for their supper and having a few drinks agreed they were good - who am I to argue  Don't know where the garlic came from though  But the wine, Port and French brandy went down a treat :P
And I do try to find wine that has a proper cork in it - doing my best for Portuguese cork farmers

I would imagine if Borg or Nastase served you either potatoes or fish you'd find the return difficult.
Interesting post as dried, salted cod is of course the real favourite of the Portugese - it's certainly not fresh and I understand most of it is caught (in its live state) off Newfoundland. Not sure what that proves - probably that the Portugese are as quirky in their taste as the rest of us. What's on the doorstep isn't always what you fancy (speaking food here of course).

Great to log back on and find the aul narks are still goin, on ,and over a haddock for gods sake ...as the seas around portugal are fairly well fished out i think you,ll find that almost all the fresh fish on sale is imported...sure it has to be, its not like ye can grow them in yer haggerd at the back of the house,...the fish department in algarve shopping has a huge choice of fish might be worth a look.

So what did you particularly want haddock for anyway? Would any good firm white fish not do? Intermarche would definately be the best bet i would have thought-although do you really want to go there? We've started to ust the new Plus in Lagoa and the prices are far keener although they dont have a fresh fish counter but the staff are friendly and its (almost) a joy to go there -and you can have a beer when you finish! As for Jersey Royals---there's no greater flavour when they're at their peak-its someting to do with the seaweed that they use as fertiliser too.
