Bon Bon --- a good idea?

The above restaurant "Bon Bon" has been recommended to me as a good place to dine and Im told its about 15 minutes drive from CVO--as Ive never tried it I would be interested to hear from those who have please.Also its where abouts ! all i do know is that its Dutch run, as is the Bistroquet bar --which is also recommended for drinks.
Have any of you used either one of both these places?

Elle,

Bon Bon is one of our favorites. We'll always be there for our anniversary in early September, and various other excuses on other trips. Try to go at sunset and sit outside - beautiful. Even off season, the view (inland!) at sunset is magnificent from the very well spaced tables in a round room. Lovely setting.

Food is very good indeed. I thought our host was Belgian, not Dutch, but I could be wrong. Menu changes all the time, there's always a choice of two very interesting vegetarian options, and usually some quite eclectic specials.

Its at Sesmerais, look out for the prominent tall water tower at the top of the hill(which you can see from Lagoa), and the restaurant is right there. I'd say its nearer 5-10 mins drive than 15, but I guess that depends where you start from.

IMPORTANT: Its not cheap, and they do not take plastic.

Richard - I couldn't agree more with all your comments - we use the Bon Bon for special occasions such as anniversaries as well.

Did you know that they also run Mitz in CVO itself, and I am assured that the food is just as good - I have only tried it on Wednesday for the Indonesian Night, and I have to say that was exceptionally good.

I would agree that it is not cheap for CVO, but the food quality matches that of many London restaurants where you will pay at least twice, if not three times the price

Another plus for those with young children - it has a rather nice climbing frame in the garden which my 3 1/2 year old loves - we often drop in for just a main course and a kiddies meal in the early evening (about 7.00pm) which proves to be good value and most relaxing.

I would agree with Richard that it is really only 5 minutes by car from the square, and if you find the water tower (assuming you come from Carvoeiro Club direction) then turn right and Bon Bon is tucked just off the road on the left after 100 yards.

Equally, if you like the Bon Bon, try the L'Orange - also on the way to Seismeras and also very good. (this one is owned and run by a Belgian Chef who does, in my wife's opinion, the best rack of lamb in the area)

Have to agree - L'Orange is excellent and we always have special nights out there. Ditto no credit cards accepted so take cash.

Yes, I agree, L'Orange is equally good (rack of lamb in particular!), and also vegetarian friendly.

Also, advance booking very strongly recommended - we've been disappointed a couple of times - even in October - which is a good sign

Haven't tried Mitz since it was Mitch - did the name change coincide with ownership change ? Mitch was good, not great.

i agree with e richard. a lovely place to sit and have a wonderful meal without any rush. a beautiful setting.

i cant wait till we are back there again. food is fresh and well presented. highly recommended.

Sorry Rob-- but when is "what" going to end?
Should I have looked at "food " site before posting this topic?
I simply wanted to know of CVO folks opinions of this restaurant--having never experienced it.I must confess I hadnt heard of the "Bon Bon"-as when Im in CVO I usually visit those close to the praia.
Whats that website --sorry no adverts --is it a joke--as it came up as unavailable to me.
My other question was of the bar Bistrokquet ( ive prbably spelt that wrong) in CVO town --does anyone know about this please?

Ellie; sorry for the confusion, was not meant to be.... I was only trying to give some more info to those interested, through my website. For some reason Steen is blocking this site...

Re: 'Bistroquet'; it is not a bar but a restaurant, on the Estrada do Farol. Was always very busy until some years ago, when one of the owners left. By the way, it is next to 'Carvoeiro Bar' which is one of the nicest bars in town. (well, in my humble opinion...)

Rob,thank-you for the Bistroquet info--we are staying at Algar Seco so we can walk down to it--or is it going up Estrada do Farol -as if going towards Rocha Brava direction ?
To Guest-there seems to be a lot of us folk going to CVO in September -will we all be crashing into each other --but not really knowing who we are!
