Not sure thats the correct answer there. I dial the local number without the country code ie. 282 ****** The 0044 for the UK is correct . It maybe worth ringing your network supplier to make sure your phone is activated for outside UK use.

I think if you are using a UK mobile on "roaming" in Portugal then you should be able to dial the Portuguese number direct without the country code of 00351. There used to be some older UK mobiles/networks where you had to dial 00351 for some reason, but don't think that is the case any more. To dial back to the UK you need to put in the country code of 0044.

I'm assuming you have a uk moible if so, you no longer have to insert 0044 in front of your uk number, just use it the same as you would in uk. Same should be true for dialling local numbers 00351 not needed. This works for me on my o2 phone.

I always have to dial the whole code when phoning a portuguese number on my portuguese mobile if I am abroad which is why I said that you should dial the code.

Doesn't hurt to do the code anyway. At least you are sure the call goes through.

Here's a great tip:

If you always dial +countrycode then number, it will work from anywhere to anywhere in the world.

So for example, I always program in all my numbers with a +44 prefix or with a +351 prefix and then I can dial any number when I am in Portugal or in UK OR even when I am in the US, where international calls need 011 not 00 like most of the rest of the world. +44 works in US, in Portugal and also in UK.
