Synthetic Grass

Hi,

Does anybody have any of that synthetic grass around the house ?

If so, what's it like (pros and cons), I'm just trying to save on my ever dwindling water supply...

Do you know where you can buy it and how much it costs?

We have aslo thought about this for our planned garden as we still want that bit of green but without the need to water or maintain.

If every " lawn " was converted just think fo the water it would save.

Also on golf courses if only the greens and immediate areas were watered
we could all carry a small piece of astro turf to play the ball from when it landed on the sand.
( If this halved the green fees you would not hear too many moans )

They stiil do this in scotland on the " premier " courses in the winter.
Players must use a mat to play from.
This saves the grass from getting too much punishment.

Someone posted some links on here a while back to suppliers of the new style artificial grass.

If you want something decent that doesnt look like plastic or just a green carpet it will cost between £10 and £15 per sq metre

Two new house built near me have the latest in artificial grass. It is indistinguishable form real grass and is soft unlike some of the earlier versions. Special sand in swept in to keep the indivual strands standing up correctly. The dowside is the price. Including the preparation of the ground and the laying of the grass I was told that 500 square metres cost about 40000 euros.

But the downside does have an upside.
The upkeep is second to none and I think you only need to tend to it every 5 years.

There is no watering, not mowing, etc...

So yes, initially it might be expensive but in the long run, I think it's beneficial.
