This morning, whilst having my coffee, I decided to check out whether the Câmara at Silves' new website had finally been finished.

Unless you jump the intro....you are treated to a mini video presentation. Silves...a story of love....Silves an endless story...voice over done by a man they must have stolen from doing American film trailer voice overs and taught Portuguese.

Oh...bring back that lovely logo with the arab and kings' heads on...

No, I don't believe there is any English language link.

Silves Câmara (as probably most of the Câmaras) will not consider any business done in English e.g. letters, other types of communication etc, so I am sure they wouldn't have any of their site in English.

If you want any help with translating any part or advice, just send me a pm and I am quite happy to try to assist if I can

Is it not a shame they dont want to engage foriegners to look at their website and who knows ..they might even come here and get involved in the community...foreigners speak mainly English......I'm not English but I use it to go everywhere in the world..why cant Portugal understand that it is beneficial to be mulilingual..??

B - Thanks for the offer of translation. I was merely interested in the "Tourism" section as I like Silves and wonder what I might be missing every time I visit. There may be some hidden gems mentioned on that section of their website. I agree with the guest post as well.

Im a Silves fan too Graham..and would also like to know more of what goes on there!...
Maybe Bruxhy could keep us 'up on events' there?...and tell us about any little gems..
again agree with guest too..great pity is isn't multilingual

Yes, I think for tourists it would have been a good idea to have the site in other languages and, therefore, promote the town and what is going on. In fact, if you like I will write to Isabel Soares (in Portuguese of course) to suggest it...how's that? Not sure if I will get a reply or that they will do anything about it but I will try at least.

I think the problem is that Silves Câmara get a bit indignant when local expat residents go up there and expect to be able to conduct all their business in English. I don't suppose you could go into the local council in the UK and get someone to speak in Spanish and Portuguese...or am I wrong nowadays?

There is a new tourist office down by the fountains and statues on the square i.e. as you cross the "car" bridge it is straight in front of you.

Events this summer have included a fashion show, latin and ballroom dancing display, slot cars and ice-skating. If anything else comes up of interest I will let you folks know.

IMHO that dreadful pt lingua should be banned! they should have done away with it the same time as the escudo. Terrible habit

How sad to see that the CVO.com website doesn't show any details of the "Summer entertainment 2005 Carvoeiro"
We are refered to the Lagoa website, but as in the case of the Silves site, there doesn't appear to be any English language pages.
Surely in the name of TOURISM and EUROS which everyone seems worried about, it would be to everyone's advantage to make the sites available to all?
