ordinance survey maps

Post by Littlelegs »

Hello
:?: Can anyone help please we have been trying to get a more detailed map of the area around Silves / Odelouca showing roads off the main ones and so far have been unable to find one. So if anyone out there knows of a web site etc that could help please let me know.
We have tried the usual places like the Tourist information centres and tried jeeves but no luck so far
Thanks

Hello Guest

That was a quick response, I did think of the Camara or maybe getting in touch with the Portugese embassy. Thank anyway. Enjoy your evening

You need the Portuguese Military maps. We mail ordered one from www.stanfords.co.uk . They aren't as good as Ordinance Survey, but then I don't think anyone elses maps are. They are very detailed though, just difficult to read. They also cover quite a small area, so you need to be sure to get the right one.

I think pm's idea is the best one and certainly guest is right...the one's in the Câmara are up to 25 years old...so quite out of date :!:

You could try the Instituto de Geografia in Faro. Their website is www.igeo.pt Their address is Rua de São Francisco Nº4, 8000-428 Faro. Tel: 289 822 773. Fax: 289 807 431. E-mail address: dralgarve.faro@igeo.pt.

Hope that is of some help.

I've copied them up to a web site. Portuguese military must all have very good eyes, the maps are very detailed. The scans are (for me) much clearer than the maps, so I've included one with a 5p piece so you can see the original size a bit better. These are reasonably chunky images, megabyte or so.

The top right hand corner of Scan10007 has a place (!) called Monte Franciscos which shows our house. It's the little square just above and to the right of the last s in Franciscos.
