Imho Maxime is the last place I would want to sit outside for a romantic meal for 2? :? We can never understand why diners want to be squeezed on to a pavement with a parking bay immediately in front of tables. Whenever we have walked past we hear diners tutting at passersby making noise etc. :? I'd have thought the constant car parking and traffic and fumes would be worse  The view is hardly romantic either

Yes that is a good point it will not be nice to sit by the cars, thanks

I am going to have another look at all of them and decide as Bon Bon looks good too. I guess these are both taxi rides away from our hotel?

Thanks again, and thanks for the tip re credit cards eek!

L'Orange is my favourite romantic restaurant although the restaurant at Canieros beach takes some beating especially at sunset. My family and friends have never been disapointed at either.

Have a nice time

i don't you have a look at the restaurants forum?

i think Ele & Ela has been rated the best restaurant in carvoeiro, i've never been there but i haven't read a bad review so far, and everyone seemed to love the food.....

Sorry to disagree, but just returned from Ela and Ele - accepting that it was busy, I'm afraid that it was not that special. IMHO the service was very slow (incredibly small kitchen would explain that) but whilst the presentation was good I think more attention could have been paid to the ingredients. I also don't think in summer it is the most romantic of settings

L'Orange very rarely fails to disappoint, Maximes service is first class but again location lets it down, Bon Bon has, I think, become complacent so in my book Rei de Praia at Caneiros beach would be my first choice for a special meal. It does not look like much at first glance, but the location, food and service have never yet failed. The opportunity for a barefoot stroll along the beach with cognac in hand swings it for me.

I would agree with Graham on every account.

When we go back to UK we always have our last dinner at Rei de Praia at Caneiros.

Seeing the sun set over the sea and having a barefoot walk along the beach with (and my only point of difference) a chilled Liquor Beirao in one hand and my trouble and strife in the other after a superb linguado or dorada ensures that we will always return to our new home here.

Phone Luis in good time (282 461 006), tell him it is a special occasion and you will be looked after like royalty.

And before anyone asks - no I do not have shares in the pla(i)ce

well thank you all but I think the watching the sunset bit has done it for me, probably a silly question but as we arrive on the Sat I would rather book it before we come as his birthday is on the Sunday - so what time is sunset around the end of Sept so I can book a table at a reasonable time in relation to it being sunset after dinner?

thanks for all your tips, have made a list of all your recommendations and will hope to try some of the others while we are visting

best wishes!

Little tip. Forget roma. I was there last week with 10 people at 9 p.m. and got served at 10 p.m. - the couvert that is. Overpriced and service was awful. Wasn't even busy. Mainly down to the new owner who served us and apologised for her very poor english!! Take my advice and skip it and go to O'Patio down by carvoeiro beach. It is the oldest and first restaurant in carvoeiro. If it is cool in the evening sit inside as that is the best part - old wooden beams etc. So romantic. Staff are wonderfully attentive.

restaurant for a special occasion

I fail to see why no-one has recommended A Casa Do Bife on restaurant hill(Estrada do Farol). They do amazing stone steaks -try the fillet-it is really special & you get it just how you like it.All the food is good and the service attentive, the house red wine is excellent. You can have jacket potatoes instead of the ubitiquous chips. There are outside tables but it is small, so get there early or book- it is only approx. half a mile from the Almansor so it is walkable. We went there 3 times in March and even then it was busy.We took some friends who know their steak & had paid £25.00 for an indifferent one near London;they enjoyed A Casa Do Bife.Prices are reasonable. in March the fillet steak was 13.69 euros, for a meal with a glass of wine & dessert approx. 20.00 euros!

I think no one has mentioned casa do bife is because it really only does steak. Not very romantic looking at your darling wife getting her nashers tore into a huge piece of meat!

and why not Boneca restaurant in algar-seco, there's no better place to spend a romantic evening surrounded by nature, you can even see the sunset from your table, and the food and service is not bad either, and it's not far from almansor.

i can't wait to get back to carvoeiro and have the seabass in boneca freshlly grilled on charcoall fire with just a pinch of salt and the butter lemon and garlic sauce... and the lettuce and onion salad with wine vinegar oregano and olive oil ....... mmmmmm......

i just can't wait.................
