Lisbon Visit

We are staying again at RB for 3 weeks

and we have booked 3 days in a hotel in Lisbon. We would like to go by train and would leave our hire car at the station for the 3 days. Will this be OK to do. Can any body tell us what station we go to to get the train to Lisbon and could we buy the tickets before we come to RB. Thanks

From what I recall there have been various posts on this - put "Tunes" (a close station) into the search section and I think that will get you to the information you require. (plus probably various musical associations!)

We visited Lisbon 2 years ago and had no trouble with hire car at the station. We caught a commuter train from a little place not far from CVO. have forgotten the place, which then took us back to Loule, where we got the express train from Faro.

We did book the the tickets beforehand from the place (which I have forgotten, but I am sure someone on this site will be able to help there), and was advised to booked 1st class, and also this included the ferry ticket. It was quite reasonable and was glad of the 1st class ticket, as you also got a reserved seat, both ways.

No problem with the car, just parked up in the station car park.

Going back to my previous message, yes the town where the express train stopped was TUNES, and not LOULE. Sorry.

I suggest coach rather than train - it's quicker and easier.

There were posting about it a couple of weeks ago on this forum.

no dont go by coach ..catch the new electiric "allpha pendular train" leaves Tunes about 7 am ..train tilts as it go round bend very fast 225 kph arrives lisbon orient station about 9.30 am one way ticket is about 18 euros

coach times depend on raod conditions ..can take an hour to get over bridge into llisbon

then go to services...then look for "alpha pendular" there is an engllish version for you to read

We did the same last year - stayed in lisbon for 3 days at the Holiday Inn.
A beautiful city. We travelled by hire car and parked underneath our hotel. We bought a "wanderer" type ticket from our hotel which allowed us to use any form of transport over 3 days, as much a we liked. The tram tour of the city is great, the roads get so narrow sometimes you wonder how they get through. We took the train from the seafront at Lisbon along the coast to Belem and the Tower and monastery etc.

I wouldn't have missed travelling over the Vasco De Gamma and coming back on the 24 Avril Bridge (not sure if that is right) for the world. It was absolutely fantastic, but a bit hairy going at times.

We got adventurous and travelled out of Lisbon northwards on a detour on our way home, via the football stadium (whose name escapes me), which pleased hubbyand kids no end, and pleased me too, as the stadium is right by the biggest shopping complex in Europe which was fab and really cool temperature wise inside.

If you drive watch out for the tolls as we didn't get a ticket at the start on the Algarve and ended up paying more at the other end when we came off the toll road.
