Think anyone who saw the Tonight programme mentioned on Chit Chat wont be laughing and I don't think Kitty and her unfortunate family will be laughing?
Sentimental items being stolen is bad enough but some people are being injured like my friend, and some are losing their lives to these thieves

Like Michael has mentioned why don't local residents set up some sort of scheme - if you tolerate the thieving its only going to get worse whereas even the Spanish mayor interviewed said the local neighburhood watches reduced the crime by 60%

Why do young yobbos always think that it's cool to wear baseball caps?

Why did Ford Cortinas/Capris have fluffy dice and Shaz and Dean stickers, it's a status symbol, nothing wrong with it. I'm sure when you were young you also walked around with a jacket, shoes, hat, cap,etc the same as everyone else.

and their jeans hanging off their bums, showing their pants....what is that all about !!!!!!

Flower Power, mini/maxi skirts, platform shoes, flares... what was that all about!!!!

Come on people, just because they wear caps, hoods, jeans hanging down doesn't make them house breakers.

Oh it does...It is these 'Types' that we don't want here...They are basically 'Teddy Boys' in latter day costume and most of them are very bad form and Loud. I have noticed Carvoeiro becoming extremely Low Class in recent years and I for one do not support this . I do not want to sound stuffy or snobish but really , why do we have to tolerate the underclass. We need good folk with Money and class to come back to the Algarve....lets keep our standards high.

Sad to say that it's too late. The underclass have arrived en masse. Quote from a recent post ' We'll be the ones wearing Liverpool shirts'. And look at the Rocha Brava ( allegedly an upmarket resort) restaurant menu - mushy peas etc.

I've been coming to CVO for nearly 20 years now and am wondering how long it will be before I too move on and leave it to the yahoos. I blame it on the low fare airlines who have opened the floodgates to British flotsam and jetsam

I agree with Biffa's 1st comments. My concern is that when we blanket criticise young people, we are more likely to push the vast majority who are not involved with such activities, to turn into these 'types'. Dave.

That really depends on what your three sons are up to. If they are hanging around cvo all night looking for trouble, then they may well get caught in the grinder. That said - the authorities and local shop owner know exactly who is causing trouble, so why don't you ask your three if they have been behaving or if they are possibly blacklisted?

P.S. To be more specific about the baseball cap kids - crooked caps, gold chains, extremely brave when they are 5 or more of them

Sadly I think NOT.

How they must yearn for the days of No motorway, no cable/ satellite TV, no algarve shopping. NO PROGRESS

Gratefull peasants willing to work for a few escudos/day receiving shouted instructions in english ( we don,t bother to learn the native language they must learn english.

So crime is down to the influx of OIKS is it.

Ahem! When I mentioned the louts in baseball caps it was acutally tongue in cheek. Of course kids wear what they want nowadays!

Having worked in the football environment for many years, we had problems regularly with a bunch of yobs called the Burberry gang because they favoured wearing Burberry baseball caps.

As for when I was young

Yes Optimistic, all crime is crime and so that includes so-called "white collar crime". These people can have just as devastating effect, if not more so, on people's lives.

Thieves, however they are dressed, speak and the "type" of thieving they do...are criminals. The only difference is the type of prisons they normally end up in

old money or new money it is all the same to me and the thieves.

But to be serious, large souless developmentswith minimal occupation for 40% of the year are the ideal hunting ground for the opportunistic thief.
Attractive as these developments are to the " place in the sun " buyer with the promise of high ?? rental incomes and escalating propoerty values they provide easy pickings.

However smaller builds within communities are much less likely to be at risk.
We have been approached by locals on more than one occaison enqiring most politely as to our business and when we explain that we hope to build one day have received a very positive reaction.

To us this is trie " commuinty " watch and has much more appeal than the Pestanas or similar.

This is a subject none of us want to discuss, but unfortunately its part of living in this day and age. We have been visiting Carvoeiro for 22 years owning a villa for that time. Its happened to us all, the same senario, new arrivals, just moving latest shopping, windows left open, its always the same story. Unfortunately had it happen to some guests only week before last. So we all know these undesirables are out there. We wouldn't dream of leaving doors and windows open at home, would we, so try not to do it anywhere else. Unfortunately its reality, something we want to leave behind when going on holiday, but sadly its everywhere. Advice for what its worth, be carefull with money, wallets etc lock up certainly at night and when going out, and even when at your place of residence be vigilant at all times. ABOVE ALL ENJOY CARVOEIRO.

A few years ago, a ring of theives came to CVO and caused quite a bit of trouble. Complaints were made, and the GNR put on 2 new policemen(I think it was 2) and drove them away. Keep the police informed, and perhaps this sort of thing will be limited. We can never protect ourselves from those who leave windows and doors open when they go out, however.

From what I've heard this situation with the so called gang from Lagoa is getting out of hand. Supposedly they steal cars, rob villa's amongst other things..

What I also heard was that the GNR can't do much about it unless they catch them in the act.

Who is interested in doing something about this...
because it's bad for Carvoeiro's bussines and thus bad for all of us..

most of them are under age, that's why GNR cant do nothing but ID them, the gang leaders are never there (stealing) but go and sell the cameras , mobiles etc... that sometimes they trie to sell for a fraction of the real price.

people that buy stollen goods are to blame as well.
