restaurant for special occassion

Post by swinter »

I was wondering if you could recommend any special restaurants as my boyfriend and I are staying in Carvoeiro in September at the Tivoli Almansor and it is his birthday while we are visting. Neither of us have been to Portugal before, I will eat most fish however my partner would probably prefer somewhere that serves good steak. I would prefer it to be walking distance from the hotel but would not mind it being a short taxi ride away and would prefer it if it was somewhere with a sea view with the option of sitting outside if we would like to. As it is a birthday treat I would like it to be somewhere a bit special and would be prepared to spend around £50 a head but hope that could include a bottle of champagne or nice bottle of wine!

I was also wondering if the restaurant at the hotel we are staying at has a good reputation?

If you could recommend anywhere or any websites that would be of help that would be much appreciated.

I like to go to Maxime for a special occasion. They do really nice meals there with champagne sorbet between the starter and main course.

I have always had excellent service.

It's not by the sea but you can sit outside and it's closed on Wednesdays.

I have just had a look on their website - it looks lovely, thanks for the tip would appreciate any other recommendatiosn too but this looks like it could be ideal.

I am so excited about our holiday which we have just booked, it is our first holiday together and I want everything to be perfect. If you have any other recommendations for romantic or special things to do that would be great too.

Thanks again!

For that special romantic evening I'd say
ROMAS...
Estrada do Benagil...
short taxi ride from CVO swinter..
but lovely ambience..sit outside near the pool ..Italian-style gardens...very comfortable seating inside and out...lovely setting
very nice food..we usually eat Italian there but you can get other very good dishes.....
But you should book as its popular....
Tel :282 341 595..
you should get very nice dinner & drinks for what you want to pay..and if you let them know..maybe a small birthday cake?
Have a lovely time and your boyfriend a super birthday....ellie

Casa Velha do Pescador in Bengil gets my vote. Great sea views, live music and very good sea food.

I have looked at the Roma website and it looks yummy, making me hungry just looking at it. It is a shame there are no photos of the place itself.

Now I can't decide, am thinking maybe Maxime as we will be in Carvoeiro itself and can possibly go fro a drink before or after dinner and maybe a walk by the sea - does this seem feasible?

But the food at Roma is perhaps more to our taste.

If you have any more info on Casa Velha do Pescador that would be helpful.

Thank you all for your help. Still welcoming further thoughts, I have looked at L'Orange too they all look good, maybe we will get to try some of the others over our visit, just looking for the most special one for the birthday treat.

Best wishes!

Well, we think it is really good and we visit it on a regular basis. Good food, nice ambiance, great views from the terrace.
Expensive? depends what you call expensive I suppose, the menu is on the site as well so you can see/judge for yourself. They do not take plastic I'm afraid, an allergy that is rather common in Carvoeiro :(

Maxime don't take credit cards either.

I have never been to Roma but it does sound yummy.

For Maxime, you are right in the centre of Carvoeiro so you shouldn't have a problem doing the drinks before and walk by the sea but I would suggest you go for what food you think would be more appropriate to your taste.

Wherever you go, I hope you have a fantastic meal and really enjoy CVO!
