Driving from Santander to Lagos
Hi everyone, Thanks for recomendations with regard to driving to the Algarve from Santander. As advised by the forum, We drove santander to Valladoid, salamanca, to Formoso . staying overnight at the Hotel Lusitainer in Formoso.( 52 Euros for 2 including B&B) Next morning we set off on the IP5 (E80) to Arrifana then onto the IP2 south to Portalegre, Evora and Beja. IP2 then IC1 to the Algarve coast motorway IP1.near Albufeira. This misses out the toll motorways and is quite a pleasent drive.
If one happens to stray ont a toll road, don't forget to pick up a ticket at the start, or you will be charged for the full length of the toll road.
PS. Great crossing with Brittany Ferries from Plymoth to Santander.Kennels on board if you wish to bring your dog.And the Hotel in Formoso will let you take your pet also.
