Weather here in Lincs is beautiful today...in fact been nice weekend..perfect English summer day
Hey, Ellie. Sounds lovely. Must try your recommendation when next in CVO. Can't wait for winter! Oh sure.
She enjoys sardines but they're not for me. Although I don't mind a sardine sandwich once in a while, ie the tinned variety.
I do fancy sole, of course. But remember one time in France being startled to be served the whole thing on my plate. Eek! I'll take a sole almondine any time instead, sans head & skin etc.
Funny, although I haven't done much fishing lately, when used to go out with the kids, never had much trouble filleting our catch and cooking it at the cottage. Seems the least they could do at a restaurant . . . considering what we pay in restaurants these days.
Recently, we have been enjoying a local Japanese/Korean restaurant. I generally stick to a beef teriyaki combo but I have been trying to be a bit more adventurous. Ordered the dynamite rolls the other night. First couple were great. Then I discovered shrimp tails in the last three. When I asked the waitress she said that's just the way they make them. Well, never again for me thanks. Just don't get why anyone wants to eat shrimp tails!
You're right eco, I should think myself lucky. Oh yeah!

Hey SHOWWWY(this is you..oui?)
...
Well you know the French do like to startle people
..the 'blood will out' in me at times
..
but speaking of things froggy....I wonder if anyone can help me with something fishy?..
On last visit to France a year ago....we had dinner in a rather nice little cafe and I ordered Salmon(grilled)..it came served with a green sauce..it was rather good but can't remember what sauce was..would it have been pesto? It was very nice dish..
Hey sardine sarnies are good for you S...why don't you like the fresh may I ask? But they would be out of season when you visit wouldnt they...my good friend Joachim(Portuguese waiter..with long experience also in Londons top hotels) wouldnt serve me them at New Year(frozen)..
Dynamite rolls? They sound explosive

Moving On
Nobody in their right mind would invest here now. The world has moved on, and Portugal has been caught with it's trousers down.
I was going to buy here but I'm now being virtually commited to go to the Black Sea. For £85K I can buy the equivalent of £600k in Val de Lobo. No golf course, but everything else. The developers are enthusistic, dynamic, and eager to please. And the banks are sooo enthusiastic! OK,the infrastructure is not yet totally in place, but as an investment for the future it will be hard to beat

yeah.... it's all so nice and cheap in the balcans, but... i wouldn't invest a penny there, i'd rather invest my money on stabilised countrys then in one that can change from day to night and then there's nothing you can do but cry your loss, ask the people who had investments in former JOGUSLAVIA what happen to their assets........

and anyone else who fusses and farts about bones in their fish at least showwy admited he was lucky
Jardim do Farol
have not read every single post in the thread as some were talking about world poverty ....
Jardim do Farol is a fairly simple and very friendly family run restaurant particularly if you take the time to get to know the owners and staff. We have been going there two or three times ayear for the last few years and have never had any problems. We are always welcomed back is if we had only been in there yesterday.
In Portugal it is customary to examine your fish whole before it is cooked. Most good restaurants will allow you to pick the fish out that you want cooked (that is why Francisco at Jardim do Farol presents a platter with the fresh fish so you can have a really close look at them). If the fish is cooked properly it will virtually fall off the bone anyway. Serving the fish whole lets you decide which bits you want to eat. I must say it has never occurred to me that being presented with the whole fish would bother anyone ... but then again I suppose I am half Portuguese so I am used to it !!!!
Enjoy your whole fish (by the way ....if you order the salmon from Jardim do Farol, it is frozen and comes from Norway ...go for the locally caught snapper or sea bream )

Sea Bream! Oh wonderful - its the thing I look forward to most when we're away.
If you need to have it off the bone, head for the restaurant at Canieros beach, where they will fillet it beautifully before your eyes.
So delicious.
Other places will fillet it on demand as well, but not with the skill of the guys at Canieros.

Fish
Sea Bream,
what a lot of pretentious cobblers, try jellied eel, there's only one bone to worry about. Where do,you lot think you are,the Hilton? I wish I was waiting on your table, I hear that fish is good for the hair, but only if applied by a p...ed off waiter. Imagine the crap they have to put up with whilst earning a pittance and perhaps squeezing a tip from a tight fisted diner. You lot make me so bloody
