Book shop?

Could someone please let me know if the bookshop is still there, and what the prices are like.

Do you mean the Algarve Book Cellar on road into CVO?
I visited it in May to have a good old browse...bought Joanna Trollope's 'The Men & the Girls' for 5 euros
open Tue-Sat..9.30am-5.30pm
if thats any guide

You can either buy books and keep them or buy books, read them and take them back to exchange for others (or have a small refund) at The Algarve Book Cellar (as long as you haven't covered them in sun oil and coffee stains of course). The books are second hand but the majority are in pristeen conditon and Ray (the owner) will only buy books off of people if they are in very good order and if they are titles he wants. The prices vary but on average a fiction paperback is 5 or 6 euros with a refund of around 2 euros if you return it. There are some brand new books there too and Ray can order new titles for you from the UK. It seems to work well and the shop has become more and more popular. It is a bit of an Aladdin's Cave and I am sure Ray won't mind me saying that he is a real "bookworm"!!!

There is also Su's shop in Alvor called Magna Carta. She sells mostly brand new books and has all the latest and best selling titles, as well as other nice little bits and bobs and cards etc. The shop is very well presented and she is an extremely amiable and helpful young woman.

Although I find the Algarve Book Cellar interestingI would like to comment some things:
- Most of the books are paperback bestsellers with little literacy value. If you are looking for a good book in terms of quality this is not the place, but if you want to pass your time with an easy reading it's OK
- The owner should know that there are other writers apart from thte English and they do write well in fact. A wider selection of writers would be recomended as well.
But anyway it is a curious place to have a look and dig into books when you are tired with summer activities

Thanks for the replies. I shall bring less reading material with me now. I visited this shop last year and the children found some good books too.
I shall make a note of the opening hours.
One week to go and we are all on a countdown.

We enjoy visiting both The Book Cellar in Carvoeiro and Magna Carta in Alvor. They are very different, the Book Cellar is very convenient for us to get mostly paperbacks for a good read. However it is always a delight to visit Susana at Magna Carta and it is a nice run out to Alvor, and well worth the short trip. It has been a joy to see her book shop develop over the past months, I love a browse to see what new titles there are on the shelves -and also a good natter.
