parking in CVO

I am driving from Faro to CVO for the first time and was wsondering about the parking laws. Are they the same as here i.e yellow lines and no parking zones etc.

The parking laws are:
1. Park where you like
2. Preferably park so that you block as many cars in as possible.

Cant go far wrong with that!!

Watch yourself around pedestrian crossings and where they have set up the steel pollards as you are likely to get a fine if you park infront of them.

If you park on the square, be sure you draw a ticket from the machine infront of the Tourist Info. (except on Sundays and public holidays)

Do not park on the spot on the far left corner of the hotel by the square unless you have a disability parking pass. It is not always clearly visible, but it is a reserved spot.

Whatever you do, do NOT park on the taxi rank, your car won't last 5 minutes without either getting a fine slapped on or towed.

Best park on the outbound road, as a walk into town does not involve near cardiac arrest, which would be the case if you parked on the lot up by the church and had to walk back up there after a big meal.

Mr G may well be right in principle but I think John has it more correct in practice - the only thing to add is that when double parking (preferably on a blind corner on a narrow street) you should put on hazard lights UNLESS you drive a BMW or Merc in which case you do exactly what you want

And if you're driving a people carrier, and parking on the out road facing in toward the pavement (not parallel), then, because you have so many people in the car, you are entitled to straddle the white lines and use two parking spaces.

And while looking for parking spaces go so slowly that you have a queue of 20 cars behind you then without warning brake sharply,dont indicate, and turn into a space!

Also don't forget to park so that you take up half of the next parking space to prevent another car getting in next to you.

Is there a special badge to confer privileges on BMW or Merc drivers and where is it available?

Give the "biggies" a break guys, whoever marked the parking in Carvoeiro obviously checked the width of a micra or smart - they are often spaced so that I cannot even get two Golfs side by side with trapping somebody in their car forcing them to become a controcionist to be able to get out.

I take your point about the markings for parking spaces Mr G but my "tirades" against the BMW/Merc brigade are based more on their general attitude to the roads.

You and we all know how many drivers of such motors behave - also maybe CVO doesnt suffer from it too much but try getting through Guia on a summer evening when the Lisboetas are down here and out in search of chicken - its like the Battle of Britain - coming at you from all angles (like English bus drivers) and god help you if you get in the way.

BTW - I know its not just me - almost all the Algarveans I know have the same view of their "cousins" (" from north").

iane, I do know where you are coming from - a local once said to me, that in August somebody flushes a toilet up north and all the cr*p ends up down in the Algarve.

also make sure to park on the sidewalk wherever possible, it seems that's what sidewalks are for - never mind any pedestrians, young mothers with strollers and the like....
