Hemingways

Not quite sure where to post this one as it is a bar (albeit that it sells snacks) as oppossed to a restaurant!
But I just wanted to put in a word or two about this neat little bar....to say that it has improved no end under new owners Murray and Hazel would be an understatement..
Although I had only made one or two visits to Hs on a previous holiday..on my recent 9 days in CVO I think its safe to say I visited on almost a daily basis! :)
Not only are Hazel & Murray the most welcoming couple you could meet but their staff too..and if you know of a more sparkling, smiling pair of eyes than Paula's..then Id like to meet them :)
My usual summer 'tipple' is a spritzer....this time I went for local rose with lemonade/plenty of ice..served up a treat by Hazel!
Finishing the evening with Port whilst enjoying the genial company to be had there!
Of course you can also enjoy lunch and snacks in this cosy bar (the soft-cushioned cane furniture is most comfy!)...Sandwiches/ Toasties/ Jacket potatoes are on offer along with a good cup of coffee....but what I did enjoy on my last day..when I arrived at midday with a good thirst was...
A marvellous cup of Rosie Lee /tea / cha!...when I asked friendly bar lady Pat for a cuppa..she said "Sure"...expecting a cup of hot water with usual teabag on side..I was most pleasantly surprised when Pat placed before me a small tray that held a 'proper' ceramic teapot....a matching jug holding fresh 'cold' milk...sugar..and a decent size cup !
It was luvverly..and hit the spot..all 3 cups! :)
For those who don't know it..Hemmingways is in the Rua do Barranco..the outbound road in CVO(to Lagoa)..next to Imprevisto and almost opposite 'Oasis' rest.
With its sketches/drawings of the famous/infamous? 'Ernest' it makes for an interesting and I think..intimate atmosphere..
Met a few 'characters' there...including newfound friend 'Marilyn'....but thats material for a 'story'.... 8)
Only disappointment..have not yet laid eyes on 'Biffa' (Nigel)..believe Hems.is (or possibly one of?) his favourite 'watering holes'....but maybe he was there thirst quenching whilst I was taking a late afternoon siesta............
Anyway..try Hems....I know you won't be disappointed :)
P.S. Hi to Hazel & Murray & all including Marilyn.........You said you'd be looking in Murray..I think you're maybe a 'secret ' member uh?
