points on licence
Can anybody help? I have just received a ticket for speeding and will be handing in my licence to the police station on saturday 5th june.
I am going to CVO on 30th june and have booked a hire car.
I am hoping but doubtful that my licence will be returned in time for my visit.
If I dont have a licence, I cannot get hire car and cannot drive in Portugal.
Does anybody have any solutions except the following:
Dont speed and get a taxi!!
Thanks

Have they started deploying speed cameras on Portuguese roads? It seems that every piece of London tarmac is now covered by either Gatso's or even worse SPECS camaeras - these don't flash and measure average speed between two points. The first you know about the offence is an envelope from plod on your doorstep. Not had one yet, but came close a few weeks back driving in London on a Saturday evening, unknowingly passed through 3 specs controlled 20 MPH areas - yes thats right 20 MPH on a dual carriage way!!! Londoners beware - both ways on Lower Thames St and also over Tower Bridge. If this is not a revenue generation exercise as opposed to genuine safety conerns then .....

your dead right. My dad has been driving for 40 years and recently got his first speeding ticket for 35 in a 30 on a quiet sunday night.
I speak to friends and work colleagues and it is amazing just how many have points on their licence.
Last week I purposely drove at 70 mph on the M6 and EVERY SINGLE vehicle overtook me.
Time for a rethink on limits away from schools and built up areas I think.
Second thoughts, no, how would the govt make their money!!!!!

Yes the M4 recently attracted attention for the introduction of hand held lasers on the bridges. I drove up to Bristol and back and like Norwichboy drove at 70 mph and it was postively dangerous. There was no speed differential between the trucks in lane 1 and cars in lane 3, conecentration levels had quite clearly dropped and the tarffif density rose considerably in the 40 odd mile stretch that the cameras were operating.
I gather that there has been some challenges to tickets issued as the detector vans were parked illegally in private ground on the bridges!!!

I am in exactly the same situation. I was clocked on the M4 the day after that Busy in West Mercia was let off for doing 159mph! They're rubbing salt in with that!
Puts me back uo to 9 points, so you may well pass me when your walking somewhere cos I've set my speed limiter to 3mph just to be on the safe side.
Look out Carvoeiro I'm gonna be causing a few tail backs!

Juan - Was you nabbed by a hand held laser?
I have invested in a Road Angel which works really well. I am out on the M4 this coming Friday so will have the opportunity to try it out against Plod's laser guns. They are still 100% legal and notify you of blackspots, schools and other areas where speed is a real danger. Plod trying out his new motor on the motorway is not in my book a valid excuse.
