Fnding Our Neighbours

We purchased our apartment last year, and would like to contact our neightbours. No one has been near the apartment for a numbers of years.

We've asked out lawyer who tells us he can't help. Does anyone know if there is an office we can go to to find this information? We do know the owner to be American.

Hi Trishag. You could go to the land registry that covers the area where the apartment is. If it is in Carvoeiro then it should be registered at Lagoa. The certidão at the land registry for this property should have the owners details on it, although of course they could have moved on from the address given if it is a number of years ago. However, if you get their names you could search for them on the internet ie USA phones directories etc. If you know their names then you can also go to the notary and get a copy of their deed, which may give you some further information. Lawyers can be slightly lazy in these matters...not enough bucks in it to waste their time on!
