GOLF

Post by Jevvie »

Hi

We will be in Carvoeiro for 2 weeks late July. My hubby is a keen golfer,
but he is undecided whether to take the clubs or not.

We are staying about 5 mins from Gramacho, and although I can relax in the sun / pool all day, my hubby has had enough after an hour.

I have told him to take his clubs and I understand that there is a driving range close by. The other alternative is to hire clubs while on our hols.

Is this something that can be an option?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Hi Jevvie - hiring clubs at Gramacho or Pinta is not a problem, however, depending on how keen you husband is, he may be much happier playing with his own set - transporting them is not really that difficult, and even if the airline charges you £25 this is cheaper than hiring a set for a couple of rounds.

I am out until July 17th with my wife who also does not play, so if your other half wants a round then send me a note and we will get it arranged.
There are normally plenty of other people in the same boat so your husband should not have too much difficulty getting playing companions.

Anything else he wants to know about the golf just ask

Hi GRAHAM

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Unfortunately we arrive on the 21st July until the 4th August, otherwise I am certain my husband would have taken you up on your kind offer.

I think he is as well taking his own clubs, and will regret it if he decides not to. I can't imagine him going 2 weeks without any golf, especially when there are so many courses.

If you can let me have any details about the driving range it would be much appreciated because if it is ok then he can always spend some time over there and will no doubt meet other golfers and will more than likely end up arrange a round or two.

kind regardss

I believe a round of golf costs around £70 which the man in our family would never pay - he's used to playing once a year achieving a 9 handicap beating all his friends who trudge around courses day after day so he's not going to be ripped off

Your hubby would be better taking advantage of twighlight rates(teeing off after 4.00pm)of 30 euros. If he does this he will get paired up with other golfers too.Just go to the clubhouse and ask reception about these rates and the possibility of booking in.

Dear Guest, it's sad that your husband, with his obvious natural talent, will miss out on some of the best courses he could ever want to play. Green fees at Gramacho and Pinta can easily be obtained for less than £40 (and as low as £30) per round in the summer months either buy using a booking agent or one of the many discount vouchers available - very good value if you compare it with the quality courses in the UK.

Never mind, means there is more space on the course for us mere mortals who have to play more often to once a year to maintain our official handicaps.

Jevvie - the driving range is good quality, and in my opinion the lessons are very good value compared to UK rates, however, the range is very rarely busy and your husband is unlikely to find anyone there looking for a game.

Most people in the summer tee off either before 9am to avoid the heat, or after 4pm to get the twilight prices mentioned by Dodger. Outside of these times the course will be quiet. His best bet is just to drop in to golf reception and ask them to book him a tee time early or late and ask to be hooked up with some other players - this nearly always happens anyway since it does not make economic sense for people to go round on their own.
