Local advice

Post by Jeff »

My wife and I have just booked a late deal, arriving next week and I'd appreciate any advice on the best places to eat, drink and sunbathe ( what's the temp at the moment?). We like fish and typical Portugese food, are there any bars that play rock music or have live bands? We are staying at The Sofeiras, is it located at the entrance to the village as we have to find our own way there?
Thanks

The Restaurant "A Vela" has typical Alentejo food on Sundays. Very good. Give it a try. Thes Restaurant is located in the "Out" Road at the corner of the road going up tu Monte Dourado.

Solfeiras is a 10 minute walk into town and a 5 euro taxi return (very steep hill !!)- if you are hiring a car take the road from Lagoa to CVO and just before entering the town and 200 m. past the filling station turn right up a winding hill and the entrance is on your left.
A 2 minute walk to your right is L'Orange one of the best restaurants, turn left and at the bottom of the hill past Dirty Nellie's and the post office you will see the 'Jailhouse' which is good for music.
Look in the restaurant section of the forum for advice and do try to get to the Anteak bar on Thursday if you want to meet some of the local eccentrics and other visiting forum members - top of the outbound road from CVO.

...and do try the Vila Nova resort restaurant - its on the same level as the Solferias so you don 't have to walk into town, good food and good value with friendly staff.
