Whilst Carvoeiro Sol is in the middle of town, Cristal is a good 2 Kms out of town (and an uphill walk if you go back on foot after dinner).

There are advantages and also obvious disadvantages to being in the centre of town. For one you can walk just about everywhere (except Intermarche) without too much trouble and you can also get pished as a newt and not worry about having to drive/take a long walk back. The downside will be that you are exposed to some noise (allbeit infrequent) during the night. The beach near Cristal is Centeanes and that beach is a lot more pleasant than the beach in town.

We stay next door to Hotel Crystal at Palm Gardens, and we thoroughly enjoy walking to and from the centre of Carveiro each night, or stay around the resort at local restaurants. We have been going to Palm Gardens for 13 years which is immediatelly next door to Hotel Crystal and from what we see the entertainment is most enjoyable, we have enjoyed sitting outside our apartment listening to the music of Hotel Crystal. And the position on the cliff top is great. The pool looks really nice. You can eat at Palm Gardens for a very reasonable price.

Hope you make the right decision for yourselves, and wish you a long and happy marriage.

Hi all,
Have stayed at Hotel Cyrstal many times when we needed somewhere just for a few nights. The rooms are big and very clean with a small kitchen area, nice little balconys, the sea views ( if you book one ) are wonderful.Food OK nothing special but not bad either. There seem to be mostly German guests there when we have stayed.Very friendly staff too.

Must admit to never walking into town though!! :D The car park is too small for the place and it sometimes means parking on the road but hey!! Thats life!

I have stayed several times in the Carvoeiro Sol. I liked it. The staff is friendly, the rooms are ok, with AC. You are hearing no noise if you're in your room when you roll down hill to the hotel after a night eating and drinking at the rua do farol. Breakfast is ok, at least it was for me. And the big advantage is that you can look at the people at the square (if you have a see-view room) while having a drink at the balcony.
