locked topic - dangerous dog

What a pity this subject has been locked.
I think the writer was right to draw attention to the alsation dog and it is a pity the moderator took the easy way out.
We walk regularly in the area and have seen/heard that dog who at times could well be a threat. Don't forget there are also young children around (especially during the holiday season) who may also be frightened. We are adults and need to be on our guard as well.

I was also suprised as to why the topic was locked, i thought General Carvoeiro forum was to discuss Carvoeiro related topics, I thought this fell into that catagory

Why lock it? OK, it was a bit heated but hey, that's free expression!

If we're going to lock or delete topics/posts when we start to disagree on a subject then there'll be little point in starting new topics.

We are all adults here (well, in the main) and I think we should be allowed to voice our opinions - even those that others might disagree with.

Well said Mary, Loretta and Michael. We agree and when we stayat Rocha Brava we will certainly take care on our walks. One day the worst may happen and it is good to be told about such possible instances.

Good points everybody - perhaps the two subjects could now be merged, unlocked and sensible discussion could go ahead? If there is no further sensible comment to make the subject will just run out of steam.
As MC says, we are all mainly adults who have important points to make.
Maybe our moderator is friends with the owners - a mention was made about going to see the owners.

I tend to agree with the posts on here.
I always thought we could discuss practically anything and everything on this forum? Only if it gets too insulting and deliberately hurtful to a person is it closed. But not now or so it seems and lockups are happening all too frequently before discussions can get underway.
The dog topic is a good one.I was going to say one we could get our teeth in to!
I also think that Digger and Ellies points about the laws on dogs were good ones and open for discussion?
If,as Nick is suggesting,the person with that dog is a friend of Gambrinus then it looks very suspicious to suddenly lock the topic!!
Why?
No names were mentioned but if the owner looks in on this forum and reads said topic,maybe he will, in future be more careful in letting his dog roam outside of his villa?
In England he would be in big trouble if his dog caused hurt or harm.
Im a dog lover but these animals can also be killers.Even a pet can turn.There have been several cases where babies have been taken and killed within their own home.
We should always be aware of this.Locking up a topic is no answer.
This place will no longer be a free speaking forum if you continue to do so!

Thank you all for some form of support in the 'heads-up' I have given about this dog. Gambrinus is obviously a friend of this owner and there we end the story. How convenient Gambrinus, you hide behind your 'seniority' (cough) on this website. What a joke. It is an excellent website where I often find good information to help me with various issues. If I can't warn people of what I view as a dangerous issue, through my partner's personal experience, then this is sad. Gambrinus, tell your pal to keep the alsatian BEHIND his gates, and there will be no further reports such as this. Now go back to bed. This is the last I will remark on this subject

It would seem that moderators are very selective in what is allowed or not, for example, a "Guest" is allowed to be nasty in his reactions to the questioning of the doctors who havent the the ability to tell a patient that whatever the outcome of an operation he will probably die,(I would like to be at his bedside on the inevitable day, just to give a wave and a grin).

But if a dog reacts in a threatening manner or even bites, it's ok. Now I'm the first to stick up for animals, but when it comes to self protection I would advocate the arming of one's self with the same club that seal pup murderers use and slap the bloody dog with it. To many "dog lovers" use their pets as weapons because they havent the balls to stickup for themselves. Come on moderators, don't be so selective, a good row on this forum is healthy, so long as it isn't cruel or insulting.

What did the dog do? It went woof, woof, growl growl, and disappeared when called by it's owner. It didnt attack anybody, it didn't hurt anybody. It just did what it had been trained to do
True it may have alarmed somebody, and that is regretable.
And so the partner got hysterical and called it an 'eating machine' , while proclaiming it to be extremely vicious and erksome even though he has no proof of that. He also quotes that the owner is German as if that explains it all(who won the war eh?). And now he questions the motives of the moderator because he has visited the house. And now the conservationist wants to club the dog to death while protecting foxes which really are indiscriminate killing machines.

Great stuff. Only hope the guy who owns the dog turns out to be a doctor
