whats the cheapest method to call the uk fixed line and uk mobile. from a fixed phone or a portugal mobile ?

Don't know if it is right time to reopen Skype debate or not

but we use it to call uk land lines and mobiles and it is great - and cheap! UK landline call is Euro0,020 per minute

bbc news website the other day reported that internet calling will be the way to go now - they did mention skype and users were very pleased with service - something I will be looking into.

The World brokers service is much cheaper than standard PT charges but by far the best option to my mind continues to be some form of VOIP system - the market analysts have been predicting for months now that VOIP will take a major part of the telecomms market over the next couple of years which is apparently now being seriously researched/developed etc by BT so as not to lose out too much.

Regardless of concerns raised by others I continue to believe that Skype is a viable option - there have been two recent software releases from them which apparently have cleared up all the security issues (for the time being - I know the bad lads will keep trying to beat the security).

I use Skype to speak to people in the UK direct over the net several times a day at no cost and we also use their "paid" service to connect to landlines and mobiles in the UK and elsehwere - phone calls at less than 2 cents per minute have got to be worth having I would have thought.

I have used Skype for some time now. With broadband I make UK to USA, Australia and Portugal with no problems - all 2cents per min (Assuming you would have b.band for other reasons anyway) I've also used it on dial up from Portugal to UK, Oz and USA. Not as good reception and some dropped calls but for 2cents + dial up cost I can live with that. Needs a min of 30kbps through the modem. I use a phone plugged into a USB port in the UK and dial through skype direct from that. Voip is now offered by BT and other broadband providers.
