Best beach in the Algarve?

Post by Johnny »

Hi guys, (very informative board)

A group of us will be over for a couple of weeks and wanted your unbiased  opinion as to what is the best beach in the Algarve?

By best beach, we are factoring in geographical features, space, amenities and no mass development like Priah Do Rocha.

One of the best we saw were around Bengali beach or Vale Do Lobo/Luz, have we missed some obvious ones???

Regards

If you have a look at the home page and click the beaches link that wil be a good starting point for the beaches in the area around CVO.

Will give you some more links this evening when I have more time.

Meanwhile I am sure there will be plenty of other suggestions

I always really loved praia de Gale (is that right ?- along by Pera) - lovely long flat beach - often empty even in summer. Perhaps not what you are looking for though, maybe you had a more cliffy beach in mind. Gale always had a good beach bar... but it was about 20 years ago. :( :( probably more up to date info available from others

Marinha which is east of Carvoeiro and Benagil and Caneiros which is west of Carvoeiro. Keep to the local roads and watch out for car tracks towards the sea for some very good (some say the best in Europe) veiws from the cliff tops. Mike

well I know Johnny has mentioned “Priah Do Rocha” (sp) and all that development…..but as a place to swim and to wander I like it, I love to go thru / under the rocks to the next beach along there: (tres irmaos ?)

Armacao de Pera ..lovely long beaches.....but ready access to local shops/rest/bars/
Nice one at Paraiso (bit of a climb down tho) and rest(Boteco).at top with lovely views over the bay/ocean..
Nice one at Alvor too..pic of it on my 'Magic Moments' story :)
of a small bay and the rocks make a 'lagoon' ..like a little private beach

Gale is wonderful as B2D says and yes the beach bars ( there are three of them) are great .Good food stunning views...........what more could you want.....
BUT theres nothing like ( IMO) the west coast beachs , drive up to Aljezur and go see Praias Arrifana,Monte Clerigo and on up to Zambujeira as far as Im concerned they are all heaven.Theres even a beach bar at Monte Clerigo, wonderfully friendly place.

Have fun

Praia da Marinha!
Bin trying to keep that one quiet

But have to agree.

Also agree about the west coast beaches - as they are in a 'national park' lets hope they stay unspoilt.
