I dont know Michael. U have food on the brain. The diet is obviously tormenting you which it shouldnt do. Why dont you just stick to your favourite meals and just reduce the portion sizes and get running up Steep Hill again.

By the way wot kind of food are you going to be eating in Turkey?

Food's not my downfall, it's wine! I really enjoy a nice civilised drink with my dinner in the evening . . . and then one with my supper a bit later on.

One night, Sharen and I were truly decadent. We had fish and chips and a bottle of Bolly that I'd received for my 50th birthday.

So, this holiday I'll cut back; after all, have you tasted Turkish wine.

Hi Michael,

No havent tried Turkish wine but have you any recommendations on Portuguese wine. Have heard of a green wine - sorry but is it green?

I'm sure there are lots of you who can list the labels to buy or try in the not too expensive bracket ie. £5 per bottle

Winelist:

Green: Planalto
Red: Anything that comes from the Borba or Esporão (Alentejo) region (Alandra, Borba, Borba reserva, Esporão)
White: Quinta do Carmo

OK, so £5 might be a bit low budget especially for the reds, but all in all, you can find very decent wines for reasonable prices.
If you ever want to know why it is worth spending a bit more on a halfays decent bottle, you should try the Leziria wine they serve up at Escondidinho

I am 99.99999999% sure this is a wind up

But there is just this tiny part of me that is worried

that TMR is something like Thomas Michael Robinson, he is 19, is travelling abroad for the first time or has previously spent his holidays in Benidorm, Torremelinos, Magaluf, Laganas, Kardamena, etc and we are being superior, elitist snobs

It was a black day for me when the Terras del Rei went over the 250$00 per litre (not that long ago).

Perhaps the cost of living is cheaper in Quarteira than Carvoeiro

genuine or not, no stomach can handle more than two glasses of that stuff before going into rotation - we are talking about the original engine de-greaser and braincell remover.

Totally agree about the reds from the Alentejo - There is no such thing as a bad one - it is just that some are better than others.

That's what I like about this site - (Gambrinus thought £5 was on the low side and I thought it was on the high side.) it reflects a good cross section of views

Even if TMR is a wind up merchant he has kicked off another good thread.

To put everybody's mind at rest TMR is not a wind up. I found out today that it is my 14 yr old sports mad son. His queries were genuine but feels he was "slaughtered" a little by the other board users. As for Michael inventing The Mickey-taker returns well maybe the holiday will do him good.

Wow you lot - give TMR a break - the Algarve is full of Brits who think of nothing except Burgers, Beer and bums etc. It's just that we know better!!! TMR you will have a brilliant time - just have fun finding out when you get there - PS my kids love Krazy World - it's worth a visit!!!

I'm sure TMR (Who really is my son) will have a great time. He IS 14 so I don't see him worrying about beer too much. I am sorry his interrogatory style post appears to have upset some of the "elitist snobs" to quote Maddi. From his reaction today I don't think he will be troubling you again.
