You got any photos anywhere of 'Sopa' B2D?..silly question I suppose..or would there be any anywhere? Love to write a story about him!

Sopas house
Aaah yes - good old Sopa!
He was called that by the young Portuguees boys of the time who used to follow him shouting "Oooh sopa!" whereupon he would turn around and hurl a lump of stone or any handy projectile at them and they would run off merely to repeat the whole thing as he wandered arond town from bin to bin looking for his next meal!
He was called sopa because of the unfortunate perpetual wet stain down the front of his rotten old trousers rather more to do with his unusual toilet habits than eating any soup! He used to have a couple of goats on strings I recall and he squatted like a tramp in the derelict house at the top of the hill toward Pariso beach which is what I understand this post is about?
He used to get blotto on any drink he could lay his hands on and it was presumably under this influence that he turned right intead of left in his "house" finding the sea instead of the bathroom one night.

I'd forgotten about the goats!! How funny.
No strangely I don't have a photo of him
I threw out all the snaps of old boyfriends when I moved back here
He may be lurking in the background in a photo though...(waiting to catch my eye?) I'll look through the old ones some time (pics of Biffa in his younger thinner days Hahaha!!).
Sopa was just part of Carvoeiro... like Tia Olimpia but a LOT smellier.

We have to remember that these 'down& outs'...'drop outs' whatever we choose to call them..are human beings the same as the rest of us....
I would love to know where these folk originated...their background..they were once young..maybe intelligent..handsome /beautiful..
drink got the better of them for some reason..maybe a sad one..who knows? I would like to..
so if you recall anything please tell us..?
Read George Orwell's 'Down& Out in Paris and London'..amazing story..how he ..an old 'Etonian' took to the road as a 'tramp' ..what he saw and how these (mostly men) lived..the squalor..bad health..digging potatoes from fields to satisfy their hunger..
and d'you know many were well-educated men..often ex-service men who couldnt cope with civvy life...
its still applies today....a fairly recent tv docu. proved it so..here in UK..

Got the photographs and they were great. I have put them all into one large photograph so I can see the overall picture. (No pun intended!) I can now begin the interior design!

I saw a homeless person I know from southampton in Bristol once - so I guess he was on holiday? And once I was at the top of Old Winchester hill which is absolutely in the middle of nowhere and almost the whole client group of St Dismas Day Centre came tromping up over the hill. That was bizarre!
Tia Olimpia was that incredibly wrinkly old lady that lived in a house at the bottom of the hill. Sort of where the ice cream place is now. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that - but she used to sit on a chair outside the door there. She must have been about 90 - or had not had access to Oil of Olay 7 signs of aging. She was famous and you could buy postcards with her face on. It was quite sad though because people used to take her photo and draw pictures of her to sell and she said that when she was young no one had ever taken her photo but when she was old and ugly (her words) everyone wanted to.
I might be confusing her with someone else but I think she had almost never been outside of carvoeiro - had only been to Portimao once or something like that...

The photo I took leaning out thru 'backdoor' I particularly liked..of the little 'outhouse'?...actually ..I stood there for some time..and stepped down into the 'wilderness' garden and tried to imagine what it was like 80(?) years ago..when it was 'proper' house..same sea..same skies/sun/moon...that doesn't change does it...I felt 'so at peace'..
I do wish you luck with your lottery..you really have a hunger to put that place back don't you?
I look forward eagerly to seeing your re-construction of interior via photography..you will share them with us won't you?

The litle old guy in the baseball cap must be Luis Biafra I reckon. Another well known figure from Carvoeiros days past. Used to be a fisherman but gave it up for the drink! He would be likely to ask you to sleep with him but I would not recommend it!
