I think it is worth joining, we have found insurance to be much cheaper as Medal have special rates for AFPOP members. We have never been to any of the social occasions though.

I have to agree with kteee - the insurance prices through Medal for AFPOP members is seriously competitive.

We have managed to cut 43% off last year's premium. This year we were encouraged by our bank to get a quotation from an organisation they were promoting (the 4Less Group) - the price offered was double that provided by Medal. I challenged the offering which was immediately reduced to compete. Needless to say we took the Medal price.

Like kteee we have never been to a social event.

I have checked the AFPOP site and it would appear that to see the full details of any offers a Membership number is required. A Membership Form has been completed and printed off which I intend to take to their office in February but meanwhile can anyone confirm if competitive rates are available for Private Health Care?

Many thanks

I recall being told that BUPA and PPP (and possibly other UK based companies) give group rates for AFPOP members.

Thanks Aardvark, I was looking for options when we move to the Algarve in about six months (hopefully). Would I be correct in thinking that BUPA and PPP rates would only apply as UK residents ?

If you are looking for competitive health insurance try Exeter Friendly. I was with them for 5 years and found them to be organised and efficient. The premiums and cover they provide are very competitive. I lived in Madeira on a full time basis.

Thanks Karen, I have requested Literature via their website for the "Interplan Euro" product. Also printed off details of current rates. Much appreciated :D and a Happy New Year
