DISTANCES

Hi
Have just booked a holiday for next year. Stopping in an area of Carvoeiro called Sesmarias. Can anyone give me any info on this area, can we walk into the main centre etc. How long would it take to walk (not jog) Have been advised nearest place for eating is Luisas and Jophils.
Have we picked a nice area, are the restaurants mentioned ok

Sesmarias is not walking distance of Carvoeiro, you will really need to hire a car or use taxis to get about.

I'm not familiar with those restaurants so can't comment on them

Ah, but do you know how far I like to walk? In Fethiye I walked over the mountains to Kaya; a distance of 11K.

You should be OK then......Its about 25 Kilometres...............

Only Joking.......you should be able to walk within half hour going there and under 45mins ..up hill on the way back.....Hope your fit

If you are staying for 2 weeks and want to experience more than a street of houses you will definately want a car. Jophils only serves food in the evening in the summer season, mostly BBQ food good but basic, very cheap. Luisas is small and serves a limited menu, pizzas and a few pasta dishes. There is also Casa Rustica and Bon Bon, nearby both are more up market and not really ideal for young families.
This is my first posting, have lived in the area for more than 16 years and have now the time to spend chatting on line so hope to be able to answer other questions in future.

Hi. Thanks for the reply's.

We are going to hire a car for our stay, but as we like a drink or two we were hoping to be able to walk into the centre on an evening and then get a taxi back. Handy if there are a few bars on the way to be able to break the walk in (doesn't seem as far then). Stayed in ADM last year, we used to walk into town with a quick stop off for refreshments at bubbles bar (only bar in the vacinity - 10 mins walk ish) We would then get a taxi back.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of distance in kilometres from Sesmarias (near the tennis centre) to both Carvoeiro and Ferraguda

It would take at least 30 mins to walk to Carvoeiro and am sorry to say no bars on the way, best to get a taxi both ways or take the car to Monte Carvoeiro get a Taxi home and take a walk next day to collect it, from the junction by the tennis club you can cut through Quinta Paraiso, possible stop off for a drink there.
Do not think it worth the hour it would take to walk to Ferragudo, for an evening out. Others might think different.

Within a 'spirited' walk of Seismarias you have Bon Bon, Orange, Casa Rustica, Pizza Paraisio and three or four good restaurants and bars in Monte Carvoeiro (and Casa Pegasus on a Friday almost on your doorstep) - I personally find these restaurants better than many in the town itself, and would therefore think that a cab to town and back a couple of times added in to what you have within reasonable walking distance will mean you can eat out nearly every night without resorting to taxis every time. (I would also recommend starting with the Orange because I can almost guarantee that you will end up there more than once!)
