Changing name of property

Post by Debs G »

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it easy, difficult, impossible? Expensive?

Thanks for any info.

Debs - we changed the name of our house as the original name was the same as the previous owners'. All we did was have a new ceramic tile name-plate installed (made to order at one of the potteries in Porches). The postal address is unchanged as, although there is no number on the house, the property does have a unique 'Lote' number and an unchanged street name.

Does every street have a name then? I didn't think ours did as our address is just 'house name' then 'district'
Maybe I need some more info about where I live! Now where to find that.......

 Hi Debs, do you not have a box no? we changed the name of our house after we bought it as it was called after the owners wife. All we did was to have a new sign made which we put on the wall, the postal address is the same so post still goes to the post box at the end of the road. :)

I agree with the other comments but possibly the most important is to make a point of talking to your postman -- tell him your name and the new name of the house -- wish him Boas Festas accompanied by dineiros -- and all postal problems are solved.
Ours even asks if we have anything for him to take to post !!

The authorities have their own fixed ideas depending on post code, lote number and street. For example our house is in Lagoa according to the Camara and Financias but in Carvoeiro according to the Correios, E.D.P. and Cabovisao !!!

I will see if I can find out what our house/box number is then. I think the district our house is in also varies, depending on who you speak to.
We have met the people at the Lagoa sorting office and the postman, through problems with delivering our mail in the first place!
I will have a word with the postman and see what he says!

Thanks everyone for the advice! :D
