House on the hill

Have I frightned all you millionaires off with my comment and I quote,

"Anyway, if anyone of you is a Millionaire and want to finance the project, we can go down to CVO in the New Year!!! ("Only joking" he said, half in joke and whole in earnest.)"

It would be cool if we could find an interested party with money to burn. Someone who wanted something to do and not worry about the cost.
I have good ideas but no money to carry them out.
Ah well. Such are the things of dreams!
Regards to all you lucky sods in Carvoeiro

Well now Gerry, do you live at the end of the rainbow and have a pot of gold? This project could work with two and a half buckets of euros. (More than I have.) The house could be restored handy enough. The main concern seems to be the cliff erosion and the caves down at sea level. As far as I can see the house has been empty since about the 1940s and hasn't fallen into the sea yet.
The other problem is finding out who owns it and would they sell.
I continue to dream!

Hi Gerry
What's the story on the apt at the bottom of the hill? Are you involved in it?
I am located in dear old Dublin. The city that never sleeps! Are you a publican in Ireland or is it a little bar in my beloved Carvoeiro?
Let me have your email address and I'll send you the photos of the house.

Hi Ellie
If you do go up to the house in January next can you take some more pictures of it. Maybe poke your head inside! Ask some of the locals about it!

To anyone else reading this;
Do you know of any Architects, Surveyors or Structural Engineers going to Carvoeiro on holidays who might be interested in having a look at the house and giving a (free) opinion?
Long shot but what the hell!

I think Gerry is referring to the apartment above Sullys, not the new building next to the ice cream parlour

Joe - what about someone in Cvo. who knows Insurance? If no one is willing to insure the property then nothing can be done? Sorry if that suggestion spoils your dream but if things don't work out it could be because there is a better 'dream' on another cliff? :P

Hi dalcassian, no i have a small pub in co tipperary but from dublin originally ,many moons ago..have a small place outside porches but on a visit to cvo saw a ruin for sale above the ice cream shop and reckoned it could be a go ..in fairness the price at the time was a bit offputting but look whats happening in ireland and i reckoned if the whole deal could be done for less then say 150,000 it would turn a nice profit...yea i know it,s a lot of money but at current interest rates over 20 years its only 750 a month a couple of months rental would have covered that plus look at the location. anyway plenty more fish to fry good idea about the insurance rep though....where do you sail out of ?got to go talk to you soon,

Hello Joe!
Yes..of course Ill take a look up there for you and take photos (Im not expert but do my best) and ask some Portuguese friends if they know anything. I know a lady of 80 plus..so she may have memory of who lived there/how old it is etc !
Of course guest is right about 'insurance cover'..but even if your dream cannot materialise..it would be great interest to know more about the place :)
Say Joe? Were you in Carvoeiro in September? Only I was in Sullys bar one night and an Irish lady got talking to me..she picked my journal off the floor(Id dropped it..almost leaving it behind)& she told me her daughter(think so) kept journal & enjoyed writing! I trying to recall lady's name..Eileen? and her husband Joe was there..wasnt you was it?
They were leaving next day to travel up north to Lisbon? Its along shot..but just thought maybe......
Gerry..Im sure youre right about apartment..is it above icecream shop or up a little way/next door? kteee says its one over Sully's? :?

Hi Gerry
Have a peek in on this page of my web site.

http://www.esatclear.ie/~joseph_obrien/carvoeiro.htm

These pictures may load up quicker. I've managed to change the resolution by rescanning make them into smaller files. (Computer Geek mumbo jumbo!) Also click the link to see 'My Boat'. It's there just for you.

Actually, I think I've stopped dreaming about that house. Might go to Marco Island of the west coast of Florida instead. That's the Gulf side. Away from that awfull honky tonk of Dizzy Land.
