Boa Vista area

Hello all. Have found a villa that looks nice for our next visit, described as being in Boa Vista. I'm not sure where this is - could anyone enlighten me please? Blurb says it is a 20 minute walk to the town, which is fine by me, but just don't want to end up in a duff area. I wonder if it's near the water tower. Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you. No intention to diss your hood as it were. Clearly a nice area but the twenty minute walk? Bit hard to tell, even from the Google satellite image.

20 minutes walk into town but a 6 euro taxi back - unless you are fit enough to walk back up 'cardiac hill' !!

I am another resident of Boavista, great location very quiet, yes agree a 20 min walk in down hill great, but agree a taxi back ( means a glass or two of alcohol can be consumed as well ). Walkable to the tennis club, Donartos pizza, Rosas bar and Happy Hour at Monte Santo resort 5 till 6 every night.A good nights sleep without the village noise, just birds singing, glad that lark has decided not to take up residence this year .

The reality is that it is natural for people to 'big-up' their own areas. They choose to live there after all.
Boa Vista is not an area I would choose to live in, but the only way for you to make a considered decision is go and visit the area for yourself, and make your own mind up.

Rosa's Bar was closed and up for sale when we were there last month.....it's also walkable to Escondidinho's, Bon Bon and Rustico....and L'Orange and Villa Nova...but it is a quiet area, without local bars...depends what you want!

Rosas open now, but to be honest in the Seismaries area hardy anything open , never been the night life capital of the Algarve always somewhere to drink but it means a whole 2 kms to somewhere other than a top restaurant to eat Bon Bon , (Michelin 1 star) numerous restaurants to eat within 2 kms but where anywhere in the UK do you get a choice where to eat in such a small area. Within 5kms, numerous bars, restarants and top hotels offer a wide variety of food.

JayLay and myself are not trying to 'big up' Boa Vista but simply trying to give some advice.

We deliberately chose to buy a house here because we wanted to integrate with the local Portuguese and have resident neighbours rather than one of the tourist areas which tend to be lonely in the winter and have continually changing (and often noisy) neighbours in the summer. There are 'Boa Vista' (good views) towards Monchique and 4 supermarkets within 2 - 3 minutes once you find the back roads.

The bar/restaurant at the entrance to Boa Vista is now re-opened so you would not have to drive if you just want a drink or simple typical Portuguese food.

Thanks all. Sounds like it will suit us fine. Like to be able to walk into town in the evening but days tend to be a drive out somewhere or some pool time at the Vila.
