Re: ref fiscal rep
Ah! thanks Richard - hats off to Portuguese red tape again.
Re: ref fiscal rep
When somebody manages to complete this whole process it would help if they could provide a step by step idiots guide on here.
We get our bills delivered to our Portuguese address and don't normally have a problem paying at the right time as we are in Pt on a frequent basis but it would help to have on-line access and also to be able to pay by bank transfer if we missed a trip.
I did try to work my way through the Financas website once before but came up against the same problem of not understanding which address to enter, possibly because I wasn't entering it in exactly the same format as the address on the bill.

I'll let you know if/when the fabled letter arrives here - otherwise back to the Financas in Feb - who I must say are always very helpful.

The two letters with the passcodes on arrived today with the reference number that they have me AND a telephone access code. I shall attempt the completion tomorrow after a nights sleep!

Re: ref fiscal rep
As can be seen by the posting date, I DID NOT manage to complete the authentication of the electronic notification. However today I did by using 2 computers. I completed my own but when trying to enter my wife's details the computer refused to allow any other name and fiscal no but my own - every time I went back to the relevant page my name and number came up! I therefore completed it by using my wife's pc - now she has an exclusive site as well.
So in order to basically assemble all the bits of information given by members and the stuff from the Financas see:-
http://info.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/NR ... nglish.pdf
This is basically correct but beware it does need to completed carefully otherwise once you lose the thread - start again.
In a nutshell, as advised before go the financas, get a number (for area B on the left hand side) and wait. You need your passport and fiscal number, fill in a form and they change the computer records and will give you a new printed document stating you do not have a fiscal rep. You will then have your UK home address as the registered fiscal address
If you wish to receive an e mail IMI request you then need to go to the second part where you must access the portal das financas and register. This is the twisty bit - you fill in the details requested, ask for a password number and eventually you get this on the site, however this does NOT allow you to access the authentication part. This number arrives by POST approx. 1 week later to your fiscal address in UK. You then use this to enter and authenticate your request. There is also a twist at then end - you have to renew it every 2 years!
I shall advise if/when we receive the demand in March

Re: ref fiscal rep
Thanks Maccasa.
So as I've never had a fiscal rep and have always received my IMI bills direct to my property in Portugal presumably I just need to do the bit in your second paragraph. However, if it's only valid for 2 years I'm not sure it's worth it.

I presume you do realise that this means that they understand you to be Portuguese (tax-)resident? One of these days they may start wondering why you're not paying Portuguese taxes on your worldwide income.Farol wrote:... You don't need to re-register, it's only the password that needs to be changed (for better security) and that can be done online by logging in to https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/pt ... orm.action and after entering the old password and the new one (twice to confirm you know what it is) you have another 2 years.Farol wrote:... Re: ref fiscal rep
Please don't make assumptions about my tax affairs, status and how/where I report and pay tax - my query related solely to whether I could create a logon so that I can access my IMI bills on-line.RichardHenshall wrote: I presume you do realise that this means that they understand you to be Portuguese (tax-)resident? My apologies.Farol wrote:Please don't ...
Here's a contribution to the idiot's guide that you requested. If it's irrelevant, just ignore it.
Registration at the Portal das Finanças can be done by any person with a Portuguese Fiscal Number, whether (tax-)resident in Portugal or not, and the Portal will provide access to a multitude of tax-related matters, including IMI bills (if a property owner) at https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/pt ... caForm.jsp.
The registration process for the Portal involves an activation password being sent by post to the fiscal address which was previously notified to AT. This can be anywhere in the EU or will be the Portuguese address of a fiscal representative, if one is involved.

Its possible change is ineffective unless it is also communicated to the AT. So keep it updated, because the correspondence is always sent to the fiscal residence contained in the AT database.
Note that you can change your fiscal domicile in any Tax Office, the Citizen Offices and services in the IRN (Institute of Registries and Notaries) - citizen card, or the Finances Portal, without having to fill forms.

Re: ref fiscal rep
Just received my IMI demand for April by Post - amazing - it worked.
Re: ref fiscal rep
I can see my IMI invoices on Portal website, but they also post them to my home address.
