I think a lot of them got put off by the Bush poll that turned into a political blood bath by none other the "moderator"??? Gambrinus.

errr the name "moderator" may seem like they should function as keeping things calm and ordered but I think G does a fantastic job in adding some interesting debates and keeping them alive and topical, when many threads simply degenerate into a little bit of flirtsy (which nonetheless is still fun).

"Political Blood Bath" - if anything, that could be a shrewd depiction of a politician's actions, similar to a "political suicide" but its far from describing what the referred post is about.

I would not even go as far as calling it a civilian crossfire, at least not compared to what american bloggers punch into their keyboards on a regular basis.

Friend, conspiracy theories and biased opinions aside, that topic is the one of the more objective looks at the historic and current state of affairs in the USA - fact filled, concise and to the point.

I understand that it may seem ungrateful to some, that europeans of all people are debating such a topic and it is certainly putting a finger in a few wounds, but anybody who sees this as an "anti-american hate campaign" should have their blood pressure checked.

Greetings from Canada, where we are getting tired of the US election campaign and can't wait for it to be over. As a rule I don't get into any politcal discussion. We also had our civic elections yesterday with dismal results in my opion.
But it may make you feel better that we had our second huge dump of snow last Saturday and it is sort of ongoing. 30 cms on the ground by now. So this will probably hang around till April next year. Guess who can't wait for Jan 7 ???? Yeah we'll then be on our way to Carvoeiro and 12 weeks of bliss.

We have been looking in once in a while and following your adventures, Ellie, with interest and others.

No snow here yet, Heini, though today it feels cold enough - but that's just wind chill.

We haven't firmed up our plans yet but are beginning to visualize ourselves on a sunny Carvoeiro patio rather than shovelling snow here in February.

Hi Nick, yes I do remember you, but didn't know that you went by "falcon" till I saw your picture on your web-site. We tried to do a "world-beer-price-comparison" shortly before you left the website for "greener pastures"? If the happy hour is still ongoing in January I will certainly show up and have glass of vino or Macieira, since funnily enough I don't like beer It would be interesting to talk to you about South Africa and Cape Town (my second favourite place after CVO) if it wasn't so darn expensive to travel there from Canada.
