Exterior paint advice

Hello fellow members, we are going to re-paint the exterior of our villa around September time&we are wondering if we will be better buying the paint in the UK & having it sent over as we have heard that some of the paint over here is not very good or is there any decent brands over here?

I totally agree with Pickwick on this one.
The CIN paint is expensive, but well worth it. This is one area where quality costs.

It's even more valid, the closed to the sea your villa is.

Buy good paint in Portugal - it's expensive but worth it. Make sure that the surface to be painted is jet washed first which will remove grime, mould and flakey paint then make good any defects. Good paint will cover hairline cracks.

I did a diy job and it's lasted 8 years so far. Next door had professionals in and it only lasted 2 years before it started flaking.

If you search through old postings on here you should find lots of advice on paint.

I need some for my outer fence wall and looked at the CIN stuff. Very expensive and I did the research - using an ICI wall paint, it ended up about 60% of the price after shipping out by Algarve removals

Thank you for all your advice. Does anybody know if the CIN brand paint is ok to use in a spray set up? looks like i will have to do some price comparisons&calculations to see which is the better option, buying in the UK&shipping it over or buying the CIN brand over here.

Go into CIN and speak to Jorge. You can get discount (usually 25 - 30%) and they have summer promotions at 50%. Yes you can spray but maybe not the Novaqua with sand. Ask and they will give you good advice.

Thank you for the advice, i am presuming that the Novaqua with sand has sand added to it? is this to make it more hard wearing against the weather etc ?

Plus! you don't need to go to the beach, one thing I've learned over the years is not to skimp on the paint you'll pay for it if you do.
