Portugal shopping - retail verses Internet

I have a quandary ........

We need to buy a new cooker hob. The one we have chosen costs about 700 euros from normal retail outlets, yet only 425-450 euros on line.
That is a huge differential
Does anybody know why this is?
Is it safe to buy online in Portugal?
We do it without thinking in the UK, but with the big gaps between Internet and retail in Portugal, is there a snag with Internet shopping here?

If it's any help, we needed a new Fridge last year.
Radio Popular were the cheapest and also had a 25% sale on, purchase price was €1200.00. Went down with Euros in hand and was told that although they had a sale, my Fridge was not in the sale as it was a display model. Asked for the Manager, not available!
Came home, went on line and found exactly the same model, from the UK,had it delivered and put in situ all for €850.00.
My suggestion is always buy white goods on line there is a far better selection and the savings are at least 25%.

If you are happy to buy on-line in Uk can you buy the make & model you want from a UK supplier and have it delivered to one of the freight companies if not delivered direct to Portugal?

However, I would treat it like buying on-line in UK - do your research into the company making sure they are a decent company with a secure site and positive reviews and then I see no reason not to buy on-line in Portugal.

Another approach would be to get names of PT suppliers from the manufacturer then phone the suppliers to get a quote and if you like the price order by telephone.

UPDATE

After unsuccessfully casting around and trying to establish a sensible reason why I was able to find a new model cooker hob online at a price 1/2 of what Teka themselves , Radio Popular or Wortan were offering, I placed an order for the hob with a web based white goods warehouse in Porto.

Using the auto translate facility on Google Chrome, it was easy to negotiate the ordering process, and my order was placed and a 48 hour delivery time established.
I was even offered the usual overpriced extended warranty, just like the UK.
Payment was made by the auto- banco on the hole in the wall ATM...How easy was that!

I got a text confirming payment and delivery details, and 2 days later my hob is delivered, installed and working.

So we are delighted with our purchase, and I still can't understand how I was able to buy on line, including IVA, at just under 50% of the shops retail price.

The online retailer was Prinfor.pt
