Removals
Removals
We are buying in CVO and will be looking to move some possessions/furniture, etc. from the UK to our new property and we'd obviously want to use a trusted and reliable company. Algarve Removals has a good offering and I wondered if anyone had experience of them or had other recommendations.
Any advice would be welcome.

Re: Removals
We used Direct Transport in Andover and Porches to ship furniture over but it was all new and was delivered to Andover by the suppliers.
Best of luck with your move. Hope you will be very happy.

Re: Removals
We used Algarve Removals and they were very good. We bought some stuff from Ikea and another furniture place and got it delivered direct to Algarve Removals for onward delivery to Carvoeiro and they also picked stuff up from our house in Surrey. All got delivered safely and promptly with English guys on the van who rang half an hour before delivery and were happy to wait another half an hour for us to arrive as we were held up at the notaries office completing our purchase

Re: Removals
Have used both Algarve Removals and Direct Transport, and Algarve Removals gets my vote.
Had one particularly poor experience with Direct Transport, where goods were damaged in transit and our claim for reasonable compensation was rejected.

Thanks to those of you who replied.
This is a great forum for people like us who are about to take the step of owning in CVO. I'll have more questions for help and advice but I hope I will also be able to offer same once established.

Re: Removals
This is purely for information as this is now a year old l see.
In more than 25 years in the Algarve l have been successfully robbed by (almost)all of the transporters that operate here, the excuses have been hilarious too, its always the driver that measures things and not the owner.
The North west freight post was l hope useful to all that used it however l was given a quotation of 10,000€ to bring a full load here from UK, after l sent an email to complain l was sent a very rude reply telling me to mind my own business, which l think is what you would get from an English transporter, English as in the new breed of English that now are not only in the UK but here in Portugal too. I actually got the full load by another contractor and it was 2,640€ and not by any of the Algarve companies.
You may well recommend people but that may be because you are fortunate to be able to pay large sums and that you don't shop around, others cannot and all people that have used any transporter in the Algarve have been ripped off in some way l feel.
Since the reply l still receive emails that are sent by Trojans from them, l never open them but wonder why they never deleted me from their list, you should all be warned that you should not open any email from this company because your computer will be infected with a Trojan and it could be costly. As l am receiving them(one more today) so should you if you are on their list. Be very careful.

Re: Removals
Here is the reply from the owner of North West Direct Freight:-
Hi Pickwick
Thanks for that but I'm baffled.
Is the guy saying that we quoted him €10,000 ? That is absolutely impossible and have never had any contact with this guy.
Really haven't a clue what he's on about and would love to know who the guy is and his phone number.
There is no truth in his comments whatsoever!!!
Cheers
Malcolm

Hi all
TommP joined this Forum on 24th November, the sameday he posted his message about North West Direct Freight Ltd. The owner, Malcolm Dodgson, wants TommP to call him to discuss. I have offered to PM TommP to ask him to do so. Malcolm has nothing to hide and his number is 077258 30109 and is waiting for you to call him TommP.
I hope TommP has the good manners to call Malcolm direct - we shall just have to wait and see?

Re: Removals
maybe someone hacked into his computer or maybe he has shares in another freight company. Very strange Pickwick that he found the need to slate a company in this manner. Where are the moderators? I have used a UK based freight company as have many on this forum so no idea what planet this guy is on.
