CVO in October.

We returned from a week in CVO on Wednesday. We seemed to be quite lucky with the weather - cool and a bit breezy for the first few days, but lovely cloudless skies from Sunday. Unfortunately we lost almost two days to food poisoning and are thinking we'd like to come back later in the year.

Just wondering what sort of weather would be typical of early October. Obviously, nobody can predict, but we hope someone could give us a guide to what we could likely expect. Any major disadvantages?

We've been out every October for years and mostly had great weather. I wouldn't hesitate to go in october

Been in October several times. Occasional cloudy day but otherwise fine from my experience. If it does rain, at least it's warm rain!!!

Do it Bigben. Late September, early October is my favourite time in CVO. All the bars and restaurants run efficiently after the summer, there's few children and the weather is usually decent. Beware, it does get chilly in the evening. Shorts & t shirts during the day and fleeces in the evening. Don't hesitate, if you can - book it. Sorry to here about the food poisoning.

we come every year for the whole of oct and 2 weeks into nov and usually have great weather and last year was really good

We have gone out during October half term for a few years. Second time, it chucked it down the whole week but apart from that, it has been pretty good. A few wet days but that forces us to try new things, like the excellent Portimao Sardine Museum.

Many thanks for the replies. I didn't really think we'd need an awful lot of convincing. Looks like a second visit could be on the cards - just got to finish paying for the first one!

As an aside, on our way from the airport and back in the shared shuttle, we saw a fair bit of Armação de Pêra. It's not much like CVO at all, is it?

No but it's worth a visit. Go to the eastern end.

Finally given in to temptation and booked a 9-night stay starting September 30th. This time, we are planning to hire a car for a few days to revisit some places we haven't seen for about 20 years - Olhos D'Agua, Burgau, possibly Tavira. Looking forward very much already. (Note to self - try to avoid the food poisoning this time.)

Staying at the Tivoli again, and we were thinking of using the services of the car hire place opposite Vimar - Locauto? - which some members here have said was OK.

How are yo getting to and from the airport? Hiring for the full nine days might be a lot cheaper if it saves on transfer costs?

How are yo getting to and from the airport? Hiring for the full nine days might be a lot cheaper if it saves on transfer costs?

We've booked a shared transfer via Travel Republic. They were fine last time - better than Resorthoppa - costing £38 for two.

I'm more interested in how you got food poisoning, don't hear that a lot in CVO.

Well, we can't actually prove it, but we think it was a round of sheep's cheese we bought for a picnic lunch. Looking it up on the net, the symptoms matched a Staphylococcus infection. http://www.hpa.org.uk/Topics/Infectious ... Poisoning/

We felt a bit weak for a couple of days, but ice cream went down well and seemed to soothe.

SO looking forward to a return visit around mid October this year. After a poor UK summer and a bit of a disastrous holiday to Austria in early July, we are hoping for just pleasant weather and no digestive issues to spoil the trip. Fingers double-crossed.
