car rental airport tax

Just heard as of 1 April there is meant to be a new tax on each car hire rental. This is said to be €17 euros. that is crazy as it makes a weekend hire for a car way more. More barable for a 2 week stay. are they not getting its important to welcome the tourist in as it is essential for their economy. Whilst I know some of my mates have their own car here that is not for me at this time.
