House Insurance

Can anyone recommend a good provider of house insurance, or a broker, for the villa in Carvoeiro that I am just about to complete the purchase of?

Vitor at Imperio Bonanca is very good; I've mislaid his number but the office is in Lagoa; go to the Fatacil traffic lights & take the road to Chrissy's restaurant, they're just along on the right hand side.

I used to be insured by a Banif subsidiary but changed to Intasure

- they are based in England and provide an english law contract underwritten at Lloyds with the backing of the FSA/Insurance Ombudsman if there are problems. Their policy covers earthquakes as standard and has sections that cover the requirements of each country. Price is good and the conditions/exclusions seem good in my opinion. The policy is written to cover second homes and periods of unoccupation which with other companies can be a problem. I have no experience of a claim with them. They also do other types of insurance and regularly advertise in the Portugal News.

It's Victor I believe. We used them and they are very efficient. We only changed because they couldn't offer the public liability insurance we needed, so we now do ours through Quinta do Paraiso management.

We use Intersure and I agreed with above. Never had a claim.
Was previously with Towergate, but prices raised a few years ago. Last year I got a quote from them - higher than Intersure before adding possible loading for earthquakes (wanted to know how many a year and their severity) and possible flooding (as we were with 500m of the sea. I explained we were up a hill and would need a tsunami to flood us, but they ignored this). We did have a claim with them many years ago and it was handled promptly and well.

I also use Intasure and endorse everything that Farol has said. I have not had to make a claim, though.

Intasure hiked the public liabilty cover up by over 25% last year. The policy we have with QdP including buildings, contents and PL is about the same as Intasure wanted for PL. We haven't had a claim but if there is a problem, then QdP will handle it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I filled in an online quote request for Intasure and a helpful lady called back within about 15 minutes with a detailed quote.

I also looked up Imperious Bonanca online and there is a photograph of Vitor (that is how it's spelt). I'll let you know how I get on.

i am currently insured for buildings&contents through Barclay's bank which off the top of my head is around €300/350 per year&through conversations with other property owners in the area it appears to be a bit expensive.can anybody let me know what they are paying for a similar property,i realize the contents part of the insurance is a bit difficult due to the variance of peoples content value? our villa is a detached 3 bed roomed with a pool .

We also use intasure who are based in Surrey. like Widge says you often dont know what a company is like until you have a claim.
