eLectrics - power cuts

We keep having power cuts at night for a few seconds. This has been taking place now for about 8 weeks. We only know because of the digital clocks as it must be about midnight, with the exception of friday night which then happened yesterday breakfast time instead. Our electrics were new last year and checked this month to get a certificate we needed for our license and nothing seemed obvious. Is anyone else suffering this problem? Cannot understand but it is annoying resetting the oven and clock.

Hi Licy, We are also experiencing short power failures at the restaurant most days. It is not our power supply as everyone around us is also affected so it must be the main EDP grid. I am thinking of contacting them to try and find out why or do we just accept that is how it is??!!

We have put it down to trhe extra load on the system due to the holiday season, our neighbours all seem to be having large family gatherings .
Christmas eve in particular was very bad with the power going off at least a dozen times for a minute or so.

Still continuing but now when we are awake and a little longer. Last night it was during 007 and this morning about 10. Grr!

Just a thought. have you checked that you do not have too many appliances on .

If their total usage exceeds you Potencia rating then your power will trip.

But then the power would not come on again without the trip being reset.

Correct.
We had this problem when the underfloor heating was on and my wife was using a hair dryer - I told her it was one or the other!!!!

Just returned from a week in cvo (on QdP) and we had short power cuts nearly every day - completely at random and nothing to do with what appliances were being used - some in the daytime, some in the middle of the night. Like others, often we only knew about them because of the resulting flashing of the digital alarm clock.

Our managing agent's theory was that some parts of cvo have older substations/infrastructure etc that are more susceptible to outages than others? Annoying but just another of the joys of Portugal!

Spoke to a Portuguese electrician the other evening and he advises reporting to EDP as this is not normal.

All -our villa is less than 2 years old, but I appreciate how easily electric trips when you have a few appliances on. Our electric was checked to change from builder to residential 18 months ago and again when making our tourist application mid December. We have asked our villa manager to check with EDP. Unless there was a power failure last night our last one was about 2 days ago.

still tripping 2-3 times per day for a few secs - I haven't bothered to reset the clocks - no point as I will have to do them when we go back in 6 weeks time.

this on and off business, does it cause any damage to electrical appliances, ie if say the fridge/freezer was running at the time ? If clocks are affected than everything else electrical that's on during a power cut is also affected ?
