We aren on Cabo Visao and certainly do not get the higher speeds and that is with ethernet not wi fi which would be worse.
I will check speeds and report when we get back.

There is one cell at Carvoeiro and another at Vale de Milho...

What about cable - Cabovisão - speed does not depend on where you live, as long as the cable get to your house...

And mobile 4G? (I guess you also have to be near a antena...)
At last someone has answered a question that not even Sapo know and I have been trying to find out for ages from them. Where are the Centrals?
My brother moved in to Vale de Milho recently had Sapo ADSL installed today and gets 10mgb Download.
Me, I live in between Carvoeiro and there and GOT half a mgb, download speed, despite numerous promises, from them. After PT installed, in January, ADSL and phone line, asked the installer to check the speed and even he could not improve it. I asked him to remove it and he advised that this was not possible. After numerous phone calls, I gave up, after a week and returned the equipment to PT Portimao, which they did not like. Two weeks late received a bill for 54 Euros, for installation and charges. (nothing used). Wrote a nice letter to be responded by a lawyers threatening letter. Wrote a stinking letter back, in English and Portuguese and have heard nothing.
Can not get 4G either only 3G and I am on top of the Hill, overlooking Carvoeiro.
Have been using World Telecom, 3g ADSL and Phone and now get 2mgb download, out of season. As for Cable, have been advised, with a shrug of the shoulder, that I will just have to wait!!!
Please do not accept PT promises, ask neighbours prior to commitment, as to what they use.
P.S for EMM, Internet TV works great on 2 MGB download, no buffering, great picture and 200 channels.FREE

Digital TV is very basic in Portugal you would have to find somewhere with Cabo or Meo.

Just spoken to a wizz kid friend living in Carvoeiro and he thinks he has the answer, he has been testing for a week and looks OK. It involves a reliable VPN and a separate router piggy backing on the normal router. No boxes or subscriptions involved except for the VPN which is UK based and is around 70 Euros a year. Does not need a computer and will marry up with the new Sky boxes. He is going to try it with my Freesat and Sony PS3 next week which will hopefully give me all the on demand services already installed. Only problem is going to be if this is the way to go will PT be able to keep up with the extra demand on the broadband

Thta is the $64.000 question we do not get a relaibel connection as it is at busy times , how it will cope when Expats and tourists start accessing various routes for UK TV who knows.
It is all starting to sound too complicated to be worth the bother.
Our PT supplier provides UK news channels plus enough to others to keep us amused for our winte visits r which is when we mainly watch TV anyway.

Apple iTV connected to the tv, and using my I pad I can watch all English TV except for SKY channels using Filmon and setting the iPad to air play. Film on are currently under investigation. It also works well on our Smart TV

There was an article in The Portugal News of 5 Oct regarding the launch and coverage. It was suitably vague, but did state that the coverage shown - reaching to halfway down to france, was for the smaller 45cm and 60cm dishes used in uk. The larger dishes used in Portugal would be much better but still didn't show if we could get it!

Phase 1 of the program was the launch of another astra sat last year channels in the C5 family were moved to it.
These cannot be received in the Algarve even with ( it is reported ) a 4 mtr dish although those with SKYHD boxes can still receive C5HD
If the Astra 2e footprint is the same as this sat then in all probablity we will not be able to receive the main UK channels on n reesat.
But we will not know anything for a few weeks.!!
Will SKY broadcast its non subscription channels on the UK footprint or its existing Euro footprint . If the UK footprint as shown for Astra2E
then having a SKY box will not make any difference either.

Dish size seems to be of no real importance in this discussion at least for us here in the deep south.
As the supermarket adds say, when its gone its gone for those of us who rely on our satellite dishes.

The Eutelsat family which some have suggested as an alternative as they carry some UK channels will also be moving so this is not a long term alternative.
As so many keep saying, wait and see.
