First trip to Manoels tonight!
First trip to Manoels tonight!
Off down the jazz club tonight to watch the live music. Can't believe I've been coming here more than 20 years and yet never been downstairs in Manoels. Looking forward to it!

A unique experience - Renate (the owner - not sure that's how you spell his name) is a lovely fella and a good friend of ours. I've been going there for years and it has changed beyond recognition once Renate inherited it from Manoel (also became a friend of ours) - used to be a typical jazz club - dark, dingey and smelly but great atmosphere - now been modernised but still a great place - particularly if the music is good.
Don't expect the music to start until after midnight though - it's not a place for those early to bed and early to rise
Have a great night Kelly - let us know what you think - and I'll be there end of September

Well we didn't make it to Manoels in the end, so I can't comment. The cocktail bar was quite busy and the company (catia,Luis,Andre) was very entertaining as usual
The square is quite quiet though although I believe its busy after 12pm (when I'm in bed)

There is live music on Mon, Wed, Fri nights in the square in Monte Carvoeiro until the end of August. This is sponsored by the restaurants and bars up there. Monday night there is a fab guitarist, Wed night a group, their rendition of "Baker Street" last night was fantastic, these guys can play!! and Friday there is Rudy Jackets. Monte Carvoeiro square has come alive again.
Confess I was surprised that there was live music in Manoels from 9pm if there was live music in the square at the same time. I assume there was no live music last Friday night in the square ?tricky wrote: The square is quite quiet though although I believe its busy after 12pm (when I'm in bed)
Re: First trip to Manoels tonight!
We've been to see Johnny White a few times at Manoel's and he always starts later than advertised. It's quiet earlier on but by about 1.30am it's packed (we went in May/June, perhaps not the case in summer). The music is good - he covers a lot of different eras/styles - but it's certainly not a non-smoker friendly venue!
Re: First trip to Manoels tonight!
The violin guy was playing in the square. Johnny started playing at 10.30. He plays a mixture Beatles, stereo phonics to more modern stuff like passenger. He is very good and a brilliant energy. Gets really busy and people always sing along. He plays all over carvoeiro and the surrounding areas.
