Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
Both have gone. ITV Yorks and ITV HD
Have just tried Filmon.com - it does work and you can get it in HD. It is an American site and looks like it costs about 145 dollars a year or 14 .5 a month. The HD is pretty good on our largish computer screenz

Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
Just tried Filmon Free on my IPad. It is about 4 minutes behind SKY and has not yet frozen and put " end of trial period " on the screen like the computer did
Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
It seems that the transfer of channels to Astra 2F has started. There are reports from those on the fringe of the reception area of lost channels. Has anyone noticed anything in the Algarve yet ?
Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
I read that the new Astra sat launch will be in May, so that means we should have not significant channel loss for a good part of the summer
Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
Nearly at the end of February, any new news on possible cut in channels.
Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
Interesting development that could affect those hoping to watch UK tv via the internet using some of the re broadcasters.
ITV has won a judgement in the European court of justice preventing any re broadcast of their signal via the internet without agreement from ITV.
Among those companies affected is Filmon who have issued a statement informng users that they will be reducing the number of UK channels.
It does possibly allow the UK TV companies to charge for rebroadcasting by authorised streamers a cost which will obviously be passed on.
It would not be difficult for any UK broadcaster to encrypt their signal ( like Sky ) so that it can be received only by subscription.
I would need a much better and faster signal before considering paying for UK tv via the internet.

Useful site. If what this guy says is true then the the transfer and therefore loss of service will not occur until late August early Sept maybe later if the schedule slips due to other launch delays.
It also seems that we may be able receive service post launch by increasing dish size and maybe box upgrade too.

Re: ASTRA 2F Satellite
The sat is not launched yet and as the previous poster says we will retain the signal until at least August if not for a little longer.
As for any equipment changes or switching to the internet the jury is well and truly still out on that.
There are " providers " queueing up to take you money for solutions some of which are just not practcal.
As many have said before do not spend a cent until mich later this year when we will finally know what we will or will not receive and which options will actually work.
I doubt that any supplier wlll give you a refund for anything you buy before then.

Total ally agree with you for once don't pay anything for upgrades until all changes are made but I think you are mistaken in the fact Astra 2f is now operational and definately transmitting tv programmes now . I had to visit faro earlier in the year(on my work job) to do some signal tests on Astra 2F
what you have to understand is that astral 2 f have lots of spot beams and different transponders and while some of these are beamed to uk only ,lots of others transmit to to wider parts of Europe and we will never loose uk tv in algarve /Spain just some of the program's
My villa tv reception in algarve is the same as last year all programms still working only difference is ch 5 regions 1 to 5 which is transmitted from 2F and very weak I now use the channel 5 HD signal(sky channel 171) which works 24/7 and the default itv (sky channel 973 )
You need a hd box to receive hd channels not a standard definition box
A list of working channels on Astra 2 f can be found here. http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2F.html
