Post Boxes
Post Boxes
We had our first bit of post a week ago, so hubby tested it out now we have our full post code and his card arrived at the villa today. Until now we never thought of installing a post box but the post man told my brother in law we needed one. I am sure there are lots of different types/qualities. Been looking on line on Amazon and the like for a steel box either white, brushed steel or dark grey. I want something either contemporary or certainly not some old fashioned sort as it will look dreadful on our villa wall. I believe I saw some in Leroys. Any body else got any recommendations or thoughts on what to avoid? What would I expect to pay?

Re: Post Boxes
Thanks, just wonder with us being alone whether they would bother, rather than put into the banks of mail boxes. Do you have the banks of boxes?

Re: Post Boxes
The big DIY stores like Leroy have a range.
Our post man was not happy that we did not have post box fitted but fortunately we have very good neighbours who took in our post until we fitted a box.
Licy you will get the monthly offer leaflet from Intermarche in your junk mail.

Re: Post Boxes
actually the junk mail has eased quite a bit, probably due to cutbacks by the shops/stores concerned.
still get Intermarche, Conforama, Jumbo on a regular basis, and others on a less regular basis ie Moviflor. I find you always get enough on the first day to warrant a trip down to the recycling bins on the in road. Lagoa camera send out a monthly water statement (even though they don't actually read the meter every month) as do our gas suppliers, and you get the odd bits and bobs in there now and again. Our postie is a friendly enough guy and will always say hello if you are anywhere near the box when he is delivering the mail.

Re: Post Boxes
Thanks all. Now we know the postie will deliver to us I want to put up the box in a couple of weeks time. Our villa manager pays the water and utilities so they will not come to us, so as you say, probably most of the post will be free leaflets if someone can bother to walk up the steep cul de sac and know we actually have a box. I don't want it on show from the end of the road, but as long as Mr Postman knows. Cannot wait to get back AGAIN.
Re: Post Boxes
I bought a good Brabantia one from Amazon, free delivery to Portugal.
Re: Post Boxes
Hi, hope you are well. Going to try Leroys first as a bit late to order on line this time. I did check Amazon but I ghinking I need to see the quality as the prices vary quite dramatically. I have various brabatina items although not a post box.Sandy wrote:I bought a good Brabantia one from Amazon, free delivery to Portugal.

Re: Post Boxes
It's important to have a post box that has a cast iron guarantee - literally! They can rust quicker than you know it!
Re: Post Boxes
I was looking at Branbatia which had a 5 year gaurantee but will need to check whilst in CVO next week what they have to offer. At the end of the day I could pay well over £60 for a plain PB from Branantia or I could try something from LR and find its OK and half the price and then I can always renew it every few years. Really hard as I want a steel one and not cast iron because cast iron is likely to be an old fashion design.
