Guttering

Post by LICY »

we have a neighbour with a very high boundary wall with large plastic pipes at various sections throughout. Their garden is far higher than our garden so it's earth against their side. There is one pipe when it rains a lot it comes gushing out. I want to divert that water as it's also damaging the wall. I was thinking of putting up a hopper and down pipe. I know most Portugese homes do not have such pipework so not sure how easy it is to buy that sort of thing. I want white plastic. When is my nearest outlet? THANJS. :P

I installed gutters and drainpipes at my villa recently. I bought all the materials from Pinto & Cruz. They are located on the new industrial estate on the road to Portimao via Ferragudo. You will need someone with strong thumbs to fix the clamps to the gutters.

We too are fed up with having to clean and paint our walls due to the splash back from all the rain in recent years, it will be one of this summers projects.
Will also buy down pipe enough to divert heavy rain into the pool when needed.

Had another thought , I do not think that your neighbour can discharge water onto your property. I would look into this as well.

I think you absolutely correct on that one. They bought the town house from a builder so it was the builder that did this as well as build an illegally Hugh wall. Some people like Pickwick, Widge, Macassa and BW know my ugly wall. That particular pipe is the only one that gushes. I think, like with renewing our pool you just have to bite the bullet. :(

Do they do hoppers as well? My brother arrives in 13 days so that is a job for him.

Excess water running under your villa could cause movement and cracks in the future, I would get it checked out.

The wall is behind our house, but the water falls against the wall and onto the plants in a raised bed. The wall at yhe back by our yard is a concrete and steel retaining wall. Our plot is a steep slope with the plot next door being much higher up than the highest point of our plot by the big wall. Indeed on the neighbours side the wall is probably less than 4' high, but obviously when they look over its a long way down. We have a back yard about 3' Ghana the raised bed and at that level is our property. Very difficult to understand, but if you know Solferias you may have seen the 4 cream town houses 2/3 rds the way down. Unfortately I have never met the family to talk to them about the problem.

Why don't you just plug the pipe? If it shouldn't be discharging onto your property this would be one way of solving the problem.
