Monday1 April Ilha do Rosario
Monday1 April Ilha do Rosario
By popular request, we have agreed to repeat Geoff's excellent walk, going over the top of the hill to see all the beautiful spring flowers on the way down.
Around the Ilha do Rosario , beautiful views of the river confluence of the Arade and the Odelouca. It should take about 2 hours & is easy(ish)......nearly all flat but there is a gentle hill to climb. Distance about 9km or 5 miles. It is similar to the "Sunflower Landscapes" walk or the Julie Stratham walk , but we will cut across the centre of the "island" to get magnificent views.
Directions: from CVO , cross the bridge into Silves & turn left on the R124 towards Montchique/Portimao. After a little under 5 km you will see the Mira Rio cafe & restaurant on your left after a sharpish right hand bend. Parking is at the cafe , which is handy for a drink or lunch after!
Start at 1000.
Stout trainers/boots & a bottle of water suggested! Take your binoculars if you are a bird watcher. A walking pole is certainly useful......as might be some wet weather gear, but we won't be walking if it's really wet!
No charge of course. Hope to meet both new and returning walkers!
All walks are at your own risk.
Please indicate below if you can come. Phone on 282 359792 before 0900 or after 7pm if you need more info.

Re: Monday1 April Ilha do Rosario
Hi Geoff,
We'll be out in a week's time rather than in our 'normal' May visit so will miss your walk on Monday - here's a photo (I hope I've done it right!) of the group we went on this walk with last September - ad hoc through cvo.com! Hope you get a good day!

Hi Alison.....no doubt our paths will cross again some day....actually, I'm back in the freezing UK, it's Willie & Carol's walk on monday, but we hope to be back in May ( & November)....is that Widge in the photo?
Re: Monday1 April Ilha do Rosario
Yep, I'll see if I can get my reply in before he does! Hope his knee recovery has gone well enough for him to be doing these walks again?!
Re: Monday1 April Ilha do Rosario
Hi Alison & Geoff,
Thanks for enquiring about the knee. Pam & I returned to Sesmarias last Tuesday & are here until the end of April.
Surgery completed 25th November, plaster cast off 4th January, crutches discarded mid February, walking stick discarded end February. First round of golf 22nd March !
Distal & proximal realignment of the extensor mechanism, lateral release & medial reefing - job done !

Brian's report says :
"Willie took sixteen of us on a great walk this morning. The spring flowers were in bloom and we walked for 2.5 hours and then stopped for an excellent prato de dia.......yet again. Apart from the dog the that joined us, we saw some other wildlife as well. Terrapins, small snake, locust, butterflies, and wild pigs - a sow with two piglets of which there is also a photo attached."

and having enjoyed quite a good lunch, by the look of it!!
